Ever wanted to chat personally with members of RPGMakerVX.net? Want to get to know your staff better? Want to discuss what you're developing, be it games, programs, stories, artwork, or music? Then come join us in our IRC chat!
Our chat is growing, and has lately been reaching up to 30 people at a time per day. We currently have two channels: #rmvx (Social) and #rmvxdev (Game Development, RMVX help). We strongly encourage you to visit both channels to fully experience the community this site has to offer! Hope to see you there! Downloading an IRC Client To use the chat, you'll need to download an IRC client. Below are recommended clients for different operating systems.
There are definitely other operating systems and clients, so click here for a thorough, detailed list. Also, for more information about IRC, go here. IRC Information First, connect to the network by entering: /server irc.synirc.net into your command line in whatever client you're using. Then, choose a nickname by typing: /nick your-nick To register your nickname, type: /msg nickserv register your-password your-email To identify to your nickname, type: /msg nickserv identify your-password To connect to the channel, type: /join #rmvx Or, if you'd rather join our Development channel for questions about your game, RMVX discussion or you need help with scripting please feel free to /join #rmvxdev Note that you can be in both channels at the same time. After that, you should be ready to go! Channel Rules Of course, we couldn't forget rules, could we? All server rules apply, and the following apply to #rmvx: 1. Do not discriminate based on race, religion, handicap, or any other personal means that could be highly offensive. 2. Do not flood. This is basically entering many messages in a row. You will be auto-kicked, and eventually banned if it continues. Special note: Flooding does not mean chatting frequently with many lines by yourself. It means entering the same message over and over, or pasting several lines all at once. 3. Do not engage in flame wars. These conflicts can be annoying and cause hatred among users. Please avoid them. 4. Do not use annoying text scripts of any form. This includes, but is not limited to: away scripts, what music you're playing, making your font any color besides the default, premade messages. 5. Do not ask to be an op/halfop. Chances are, the more you ask, the less likely you will, and more likely you'll be banned. 6. Do not engage in cross-channel "invasions". 7. Do not advertise. Exception: You can advertise your projects or any threads on rpgmakervx.net. 8. DO NOT BAN EVADE. Keep to these rules, and you'll have a wonderful time! Channel Operators Operators (ops) and half-operators (hops/halfops) are those that keep the chatroom in order. Halfops can kick and ban, and set some modes. Operators can do everything a halfop can but also set more modes and can make other people ops or halfops. If you have a problem with a user, please PM one of the ops.
X is a bot that acts like ChanServ. It's NOT a real person. Channel Stats http://stats.dproj.info/rmvx.php Rules for #rmvxdev (from here down is all written by Touchfuzzy) 1. Be helpful to others in the channel. This is the BIGGEST rule, and thus I am putting it first. Criticism WILL happen, but only constructive criticism is helpful. Telling someone their map "sucks" is not helping them. Telling them that they have too much empty space is. 2. Try to stay on the topic of development using Rpg Maker VX. Now, I know that off topic discussion WILL occur. Sometimes one thing reminds you of another and you associate down the line until you are talking about Russian water polo. Its natural, but try not to stray TOO FAR, and if someone either needs help or wishes to discuss something about their project, then return to the official topic. We don't want ANYONE to feel ignored, particularly when they need real help. On the flip side of this, if offtopic comments are going around DO NOT FEEL INTIMIDATED AND INTERRUPT IF YOU NEED SOMETHING. Basically, what I'm saying is, I'm not going to jump down the throat of people for a couple of off topic comments, but if it is hurting the purpose of the channel, expect me to come down on you like the hammer of Thor. 3. No trolling, spamming, or general internet stupidity. This should be obvious... but this is the internet, so I'm going to include it anyway. General structure of the channel. At the moment the channel staff is as follows: Channel Owner: Mithran (NEW OWNER as of July 28, 2010) Halfop: Pineda Halfop: Scherzo Halfop: Sevith This staff will grow as needed for proper moderation of the channel. I am looking at people for ops. Do not ASK to be an op. If I feel that you would make a good op, I will ask you if you wish to be one. If you wish to be an op, the best course of action would be consistently good participation in the channel. Now, as for Voiced members. These are the members (other than ops) who have a good working knowledge of RPG Maker VX. These are people who are there to help new game makers grow. Now, even if you don't have a nice Voice symbol (or dot, depending on the IRC client) next to your name, answer any questions that you do know the answer to if you can. Important Sidenote: What you say or do in IRC can get you banned from rpgmakervx.net. This post has been edited by Kav: Aug 17 2010, 06:47 PM

Umm, I downloaded chatzilla, but i'm terrible at life and can't figure out how to open and run it. A little help would be appreciated. It only takes a few minutes to figure out... I provided lots of basic info in this thread. If you're really having trouble, use www.mibbit.com and select SynIRC in the server dropdown list. Put your nickname in the nickname box and #rmvx as the channel. -------------------- |

Keep trying to connect. It might be a problem with mibbit or something, since I know you normally use it and get on well enough. I'm on and no one else has any problems so... :/
EDIT: You could also just use a REAL client like mIRC ;P -------------------- |

I also have this problem. I get that problem when I try it from work. The thing is, some servers on synIRC block it, while others don't. So keep trying to connect and you'll eventually get a server that allows it (I think snowball.synirc.net is one of the servers that allows mibbit). -------------------- |

I tried to connect to snowball.synirc.net, and got the following message: snowball.synirc.net: Closing Link: Abculatter_2 (User has been banned from synIRC (Session limit exceeded)) I don't recall doing anything ban-worthy... |
