This Logo is so Old now that I replaced every sprite. Please just think of this as an 'amusing picture'


Hello everyone and welcome to my first official project! This project is a way to test how far my RPGmaking capabilities go, but do not worry I will make sure everything is close to perfection! This will be a standard JRPG'd style game. It won't be too long but long enough to keep you entertained the whole time. I hope you enjoy the production of my RPG game! Every character sprite (except 1) will be custom made by me using the Kaduki template.

Credo Fortuna will not be a 'omgteengamesarebadmaturegamesareawesome' game. It will not include meaningless swear words just so it can look 'mature', however that doesn't mean this game will be suited for 'childish' players. This is meant to be a fun relaxing game with a good and easy story along with a fun battle encounter. If you want to know how I will design it, just think its "Earthbound meets Lufia."

SYNOPSIS
Spoiler: Game Genre: Steampunk/Fantasy

Prologue
PS: If you find alot of short sentences on this paragraph, well the reason why is because this is originally an outline formed into a paragraph. Yeah I know it sounds funny

Terravis is a world full of magi and technology. The bulk of the advancement came from the 22 powerful deities of Arcana. The Arcana are nothing more than elements of what remains of the Titans of the old but without these deities the balance of Terravis would be in shambles. Since all 22 deities are now ethereal beings, they cannot balance the world from physically. However, they can share their powers with a mortal being in the world. Those who carry the powers are called the Magnus or the Great Ones . The Magnus jobs are not defined. Each deity has their own perspective of the world and each will find that their way of things will be better. One of the major rules of the Magnus is that unless it is agreed within all 22 members, all members are prohibited to work together. Personal opinions will not be tainted in any way possible. What the Magnus decides is what the deity decides and they must stick to this. It is unknown how these Magnus are chosen. However it is said that those who are the chosen share a great deal of personality and thoughts of the deities; both standard and reversed too. The Magnus can be chosen at any given time but usually happens when the previous bearer has fallen or given up their position. A Magnus may not carry more than 1 Arcana as the deities do not allow such things to happen. Even if the opponent somehow submits their powers, the powers would not transfer to the other person as the giving decision is made by the deities themselves. And because the deities themselves follow the 1st rule submission of power is not possible. However this is what is wrong with the world now. As hundreds and hundreds of years passed by, the deities are losing connection with their Magnus . As the power of the deities wane, the power of the Magnus increase. The deities cannot take back the power given to their Magnus because it is presented as a gift . Magi societies started to realize the Arcana are fading from the deities and more and more uprising started to occur. 5 years ago, a powerful Magnus formed a guild with 6 other Magnus . They called themselves the Guillotine and told the world they would act as a watch tower for any underground evil activities. People saw them as a beacon of light, but as years passed the world started to realize these weren t saviors but rather tyrants. The deities were powerless to stop their reign over the free lands, so to counteract this some of the remaining members formed their own guild. However, compared to the Guillotine, the guild seemed unorganized and weak. The counter guild fell in a matter of days and a valuable member lost her life which was the finishing blow to every rebellion. After the loss of the leader, the remaining Magnus decided to work underground in secret. It is unknown how powerful or how large their numbers are every since the majority of Magnus all disappeared but one thing is certain that each side is trying to overthrow the other.

Now...

Emriss, a 17 year old student of the Blueridge Art Institute is having her 'average' day. After doing her duties at home, she always runs to the local relic store and buys useless objects due to her superstitious beliefs. While browsing the store for a hair pin, the shopkeeper offers her a business card with a strange phone number and a huge catalog of relic pictures. He informs her that the store has everything she needs and he wants her to leave the store because window shopping for 2 hours wasn't the best way to spend her evening. As Emriss left the store, she ran to the nearest payphone and called the number. As soon as she dialed the number, she felt a strange buzz on the other line. As the call finally went through, like a sunday morning doorknob shock she felt strange energies surging into her body. As the energy crept in Emriss started to lose consciousness, then slowly the poor girl falls down and poof!

Emriss wakes up in a middle of a strange damp forest. With an unbearable migraine, the poor girl lays down on the damp grass as the rain pours onto her face. Emriss has no idea where she is. She had so many questions like why was the rain so heavy, where did this paper fan come from or why she had a tatoo on her hands, but right now she had to sleep. As she slowly closed her eyes, she realized her body was being dragged through the forest. She hoped this wasn't a kidnapping which was going on for a while around her neighborhood. She wanted to fight back, but for now she just wanted to close her eyes and let everything work it's way. Like a reckless fool Emriss falls asleep in hopes of everything being alright...

HEY WAIT A MINUTE EFG THIS SOUNDS LIKE A TYPICAL STORY TO ME, SURE IS BORING. IS THERE ANYMORE TO THIS?

Well since you guys think this is a total bore allow me to tell you what will happen around midgame.

Alot of people who read my story believes "HEY THE STORY ENDS WITH WHEEL OF FORTUNE BEING SAVED BY THE MAIN CAST," which is wrong! This is where the huge plot twist emerges and you find out about the guillotine and counter guild's true intentions. The party does not acquire the bearer of the Wheel of Fortune. Infact, the Guillotine take the bearer away right in front of their eyes! With the party in duress they drop down to the ground with no hope to bring peace back to the world. But then all of a sudden (well okay, not all of a sudden, they get a tip from a 'friendly' character) they learn that there is more to the plan of the Guillotine. They don't plan to take complete control over the world using the power of the Wheel of Fortune, instead they are trying to search for the fading deities. Why would the guillotine be searching for the Fading Deities?

Then it strikes the party. Using only the Wheel of Fortune wouldn't be enough to take control of the world. Even though it is a powerful Arcana, 1 arcana can't change the world. However, if they can find the fading deities and destroy all the arcanas of those who appose them, then conquering would be an much easier process! And there is only 1 Arcana powerful enough to locate the birthplace of the deities and that would be the Wheel of Fortune. Even 1 Magnus is a threat to the guillotine, but if they remove the deities from the world, so will their powers fade away. This was their true intention and now the party has a new mission to complete.

BTW this isn't the 'real' plot twist.


'CREDO FORTUNA'?
Spoiler: I know you might be curious of why I chose this name. Now this might sound silly, but I urge you guys not to read this part >.> unless you really, really want to know. Anyways...

Credo Fortuna stands for 'The Fading Fortune'. During the entire storyline, both factions of the Guillotine and the 'Counter' (NOTE: Counter is NOT THE NAME OF THE GUILD. It is a placeholder) Guild are in search for the last remaining Magnus. The 2nd to last was Emriss' The Fool Arcana, a powerful Arcana which is usually called the start of everything. The Fool is powerful because it can grow much more powerful than other Arcanas as it holds no Power Ceiling, allowing the Magnus unlimited power if the right amount of training is given. The last unknown Magnus is the 'Wheel of Fortune', another powerful Arcana with the power reveal a person's fate and destiny. With this power, the guild can really predict the future.

But is this really the true story? Mwamwa, read the tab above to see the 'real' story



CHARACTERS

『 The Wings of Ether 』
Spoiler:
Name: Emriss
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Occupation: Student
Likes: Pastry and Erotic Novels
Trait: Reckless, kindhearted and confident.
Magnus: The Fool / Wind and Ether
Special: Trance
Weapon: Elemental Fan
Emriss is the main character of the game. Transported to the world of Terravis by an unknown source, she will now journey the lands and try to return back to her home. She is the bearer of the Magnus Card 'Fool'.


『 The Lord of Earthen Fire 』

Name: Konrad
Age: 37
Gender: Male
Occupation: Engineer
Likes: Shiny things
Trait: German-accented, over protective father like figure and humorous.
Magnus: The Sun / Fire
Special: Enhance
Weapon: Morning Sun (mace)
Konrad is a half man half machine and the Magnus bearer of the Le'Soleil or 'The Sun'. Once a famous scientist and engineer, after a freak engineering accident he now lost more than 70% of his body and replaced it with mechanical parts. The deity of the Sun Arcana shared her powers with him which allowed him to live. He lost both his wife and daughter during the accident and lives in isolation in the mountains along with his trusty butler and his maid whom he treats like his daughter.


『 The Vindicator 』

Age: 22
Gender: Male
Occupation: Drifter
Likes: Emriss
Trait: Quiet, persistant, stingy and unstable.
Magnus: The Tower / Earth and Nether
Special: Focus
Weapon: Elemental Gloves
Lance is a mercenary/drifter. He is bearer of the Tower and uses the power to earn him some good money. Not much is know about this drifter, but one thing for sure is that he has developed an interest for Emriss.


『 The Forge 』

Age: 24
Gender: Female
Occupation: Exiled
Likes: Talking
Trait: Calm, clumsy and wise.
Magnus: The Temperance / All Elements
Special: Infuse
Weapon: Parasol
Serah the bearer of the Temperance, once a renown diplomat now hides and runs from her past. Ever since the rise of the Guillotine, the members hunted her to remove her from the face of the world. She lived in exile for 3 years now and unfortunately her knowledge of wielding magic also shortened.


『 The Renewer 』

Age: 21
Gender: Male
Occupation: Librarian
Likes: Reading and pastry.
Trait: Talkative, charming, firm and confident.
Magnus: The Star / Water
Special: Cycle
Weapon: Boomerang
Kal is a librarian which in the world of Terravis is a term used for people who scribe Magnus Cards. Ever since he was young, his fascination for Arcana Cards was unmatched by any living creature in the world. As he slowly grew his dream was to be a researcher for the Institute of Arcane Studies, but because he couldn't support himself financially he settled for a local Librarian instead. However as time went by, he was gifted the Arcana of the Star. At first Kal decided to use this so he can enter the institute free of charge to accomplish his dreams, but ever since the rise of the Guillotine Kal slowly hid himself to an isolated library in hopes of all the conflict outside washing away. So now Kal sits on his desk, writing lesser cards for adept Magnus' and dreams himself in the capital city, lecturing and teaching young and ambitious adepts.


『 The Oracle 』

Age: 25
Gender: Female. No wait, Male... ??????????????
Occupation: Dancer
Likes: Soft and Fuzzy things
Trait: Open minded, enthusiastic yet cold at times. Dual personalities... Doh ho ho I'm saying too much!
Magnus: Lovers
Special: Twin
Weapon: Melee
Introducing Gemin, the last but not least character of Credo Fortuna! Gemin is the bearer of the Lovers Arcana and an ex-member of the Guillotine. Once renown as the great adviser of the guild Gemin now spends most of his/her time in theaters showing off his/her dance skill to the public. Gemin left the Guillotine for personal reasons and surprisingly the guild doesn't have him in the blacklist.


MINOR CHARACTERS
Spoiler: Captain Whisks
Captain Whisks is an old friend of Konrad. Whisks used to be a very rich and powerful man, but ever since he found a bar of gold lodged into a puddle he devoted his life for looking for the "Ultimate Puddle Treasure." Its been 15 years now, and Whisks already blew all his money and status looking for it, yet he still looks for the one and only treasure with his trusty cardboard ship and bar of soap companion Phillip. He travels the world sitting in the worst end of every bar, selling gossips and bars of soap to people.

He will be one of the major NPCs throughout the whole game, but will serve no actual purpose to the main story. However, Whisk's companions on the otherhand...

Phillip and Friends

Phillip is a animated bar of soap. Phillip will not be a playable character but during the game he will lend you tips inside dungeons and towns to help you ease the game (just a little). Phillip and his soap bar friends will act as save points as you engrave your data onto their backs.

The Red Balloon

How can a red balloon possibly play a big role in a game?! The red balloon is a special item Emriss earns in the early sequence. The balloon doesn't have a role during a battle, but in the story.... Well I'm saying too much!



FEATURES

I am using RIPS from different games and my own custom graphics for tiles. Yes, excluding couple mack tiles and xp tiles, everything will be custom.

All 6 main characters Except 1 will be custom made.

Battle System

The battle system will consist of 3 controllable players and an SBS system. Yes I know most of us are sick of SBS, so in order to cure that I have switched the perspective and revamped the UI.

The picture you see above is infact how the battle will look like. It will be simple, clean and similar to one of my favorite games during my childhood; Mario RPG.

Each character will use a different kind of casting sequence or ability. For example
[Works!] Trance: Emriss has to punch in sequences for 2 seconds to cast a spell. Wrong sequences will trip Emriss, wasting a turn.
In the 2 seconds, Emriss must cast a spell using [Up Down Left Right X Y L R ]. If you screw up the sequence, you will not be able to get a second chance (ie trying to press 'back' button).

[Works!] Enhance: Konrad can equip himself with different battle parts during battle to get different spell lists.
Konrad will gain more equipment as time goes by. These equipment are NOT items you equip outside the battle, only inside the battle. With unlimited combinations, you can get many different types of spells at your arsenal.

[Works!] Lag: Lance has a curse type spell effect. Spells do not hit immediately, rather it takes couple turns for the spell to hit the target allowing combos.
Lance has a delayed spell. Some spells will take 5 turns to take in effect, why some will take 1 turn. This will allow you to create various combinations, such as [10 Turn Skill, 9 Turn Skill, 8 Turn Skill, 7 Turn Skill... 1 Turn Skill. So technically, you can cast 10 spells in 1 turn if you time it right. Talk about burst!

[Works!] Infuse: Serah has the ability to mix spells with other spells. So majority of her spells will all be automated dual and tripple techs.
For example, Emriss casts Gust and Kal casts Mist. If Serah chooses to cast Infuse, Emriss, Kal and Serah will tripple tech a Blizzard spell.

[Works!] Cycle: Kal's ability system will be just like what the title said; a cycle! For each turn for 6 turns, Kal will be able to cast a limited spells. This will make the player think carefully about what spell to cast.
For example...

Turn 1 Spells: Aqua Surge, Drift and Drench
So the player chooses Aqua surge for the turn 1 spell. Then the next turn...
Turn 2 Spells: Torrent, Influx, and Flood
Each turn, Kal will have turn specific skills available. You cannot return to the #1 turn skill list or even skip a turn, making the player think twice about what spells to cast.

After 6 cycles the spell will return to turn 1.

Unfortunately, I am not a musician. HOWEVER! I will try getting some very fine tunes.

FUNFACTS

Did you know...

�" The first concept of the game was actually about a girl attending a magic school, discovering she had the Arcana of the Fool. It was later scrapped for being boring and overused.

�" Emriss took 2 weeks to draw! Yes! 2 whole weeks for such a simple model (including 8 way direction and animation). Emriss has been redrawn over 5 times. But Konrad took only 15 minutes to draw everything.

�" The Emriss sprite is still not finalized, and it will be changed (again) soon.

�" The original Credo Fortuna was a steampunk game using Emriss as an secret weapon used by the 'Black Suit' organization. The idea was trashed after the difficulty of juggling Magic and Steampunk theme together

�" The first concept of Credo Fortuna was a drama, serious natured and violent. It was later scrapped because everything looked too cute and didn't fit too well.

�" I first started thinking about the project while playing Mother 3. If you are a huge Earthbound/Mother fan like me, you will notice the huge similarities and influences I got from the series.

�" I despise spriting animations of walking down. Goddamn.

This game looks and sounds freaking great! The logo is quite nice. It definitely brang a smile to my face. And the custom stuff looks very awesome. Nice and well done.

I'm looking forward to seeing more. From the looks of it, this game may turn out quite nicely, on t6op of still being in the early stages.

Hm... since his weapon is a pistol you could go for a slot-type input method for Kal? Don't know how possible that would be in RMVX, though

What I meant by slot was the gambler type slot to make it more luck-related. For example, maybe there are different types of bullets in the gun and you spin the chamber to see what type is used. Well, I guess that's more a revolver than a pistol but you get the idea.

Location-based spells could work as a type of Geomancy. Maybe a character whose skill depend on who is in the active party? With 6 characters and max party of 3 you could have any number of combinations.

What I meant by slot was the gambler type slot to make it more luck-related. For example, maybe there are different types of bullets in the gun and you spin the chamber to see what type is used. Well, I guess that's more a revolver than a pistol but you get the idea.

Location-based spells could work as a type of Geomancy. Maybe a character whose skill depend on who is in the active party? With 6 characters and max party of 3 you could have any number of combinations.

wow a revolver idea, that sounds pretty good (better than what I was thinking of for couple of days now >.>, boomerang idea = terrible)

Hmm I guess if we can somehow make it less luck based it can work out alot better

Hmm your idea is really helping me alot, so how about this?

And that bullet will be fired on your opponent

This looks fantastic! The screenshots of the maps will make me keep tabs on this project. Do you think you could share the tilesets?

I like the idea of the original battle system too. The only negative comment I have to make (need to think of at least one apparently) is the character sprite for The Lord of Earthen Fire. I know hes half-robot but it doesn't fit. Maybe a more prominent red colour instead of the maroon? Just a suggestion.

The inspiration camefrom a Steampunk setting. The game isn't going to revolve around a total fantasy theme. Originally it was going to be a steampunk game but steampunk is a hard theme to juggle with. The reason why I used Maroon is because, well when I think Steampunk the first 2 colors which come to my mind are Gold and Maroon. The reason why I didn't want to change to another color was the fact that

A) Blue pallet makes him wayyy too dark.
cool.gif Yellow makes it look weird. And The golden linings have to be changed

The only other color I have thought for Konrad is green. I might change to that depending on how it goes.

And yeah it seems like I do use alot of red for some reason >.>

Anyways about the tiles
I'll share them when I finish the tilesets heh. It isn't even complete but I will share it later on.

That might become tedious or repetitive if the player is made to do the same thing every time they use the revolver. Maybe you could throw in some varying UI for the mini-game, to mix things up? I've played quite a few games where a neat feature like that is overused and creates a negative impact on gameplay.

Yeah thats what I'm worried about the most Inverted, I don't want to make spells a chore but something the player can have fun while casting. It was one of the reasons why I couldn't plan anything for Kal and the 6th character; because everything else seemed like a repetitive work.

Sometimes I think 2 second limit for Emriss' sequence input is a little harsh because I disabled the 'back' button during battles so people can't re-correct mistakes.

But yeah, I'm open to any suggestions (reasonable suggestions ofcourse). I hit the writer's block and I really have no idea what to give them
