Just wanted to show off the new sprites I finished. I managed to complete all main characters now, and boy are they an improvement over the old style!

(larger sprites are the newer ones)

Celebrations are in order! I have managed to finish all interior maps. So now, excluding the maps that change during each season, I've completed all maps to start the more serious work; NPC schedules!

I'm working on getting one NPC to follow a schedule, walk out of a map at a certain time, walk in a map at another time etc. Shops or houses will stay closed if the owner is not there, unless you become friends with them, then you can always visit. Here's a screenshot of this in action: Bill is out working in the field, so his shop is closed right now.



When you're already inside, and it hits 14:00, you'll get automatically kicked out. If you're friends with Bill, you won't get kicked out, but you do see him leaving the house.


Aside from that news, I have created a nice promotional image for Tailor Tales:

I really like the idea of the NPCs having their own schedules, I've started doing something like that as well and it really brings a little realism to them. I can imagine that must be pretty tough to event properly with stuff like your main menu being evented as well D:

Ugh yeah, I had like a major problem with the evented menu + evented NPC schedules >_<

But I've sorted it out by placing the menu event on every single map, instead of transferring you to a map with the menu on it, so that you don't interrupt the NPCs walking around. It also helps A LOT that Sky00Valentine made me a script that stops all other events from working, except the one that it is being run in (the menu for example).

Whoa, that's a nice promotional image! I have a few questions though!

1. Will we able to talk, or will we be silent? (like in Harvest Moon)
2. Will the tileset reflect the seasons? (Like in fall, the leaves starts to turn red)
3. Will the character the player choose change the choices in game? (Like the blonde girl would say something different than the brunette)

James is probably my favorite uhh....guy, so far. laugh.gif

1. It's a silent protagonist, like Harvest Moon.
2. Yup, they will! But those are the last thing on my mind to do, since I'm aiming for a Spring demo. Once that's finished I'll make all the other seasons.
3. No, the only thing that changes between the two main characters is their sprite graphic, and you get an extra boost in relationship points with certain bachelors (Joselina = Bill & James, Abigail = Calvin & Roy). I don't want to make gameplay different when choosing either of them.

James seems to be the fan favourite, he's got about 50% of voters saying they'd marry him. Poor Bill has 4%.

I'm happy to share some good news; my evented portrait and dialogue system are working.



That's a placeholder image for the portrait at the moment, but it's build up out of 6 different images to display a wide range of emotions. And of course, the heart in the bottom right of the window to show the bachelor's current heart level. Then there's the dialogue, which is displayed based on a number of things, such as the day, the season, the heart level, the location and the time of day. Just by interacting with a NPC, you'll activate 4 different common events to calculate what needs to be shown on the screen.

Surprisingly, it all seems to work. With a little bug coming from IceDragon's script, which he's working on fixing, it pretty much works like how it's supposed to.

Now I just need to focus on finishing all dialogue, as well as the real portrait's expressions.

Anyways, I was wondering what you guys like more: a silent protagonist, or one that has some dialogue during cutscenes? I'm debating whether or not to include dialogue for the main character, but I'd like to hear opinions on it first.

What's new in this beta? All 5 bachelors have now been given a working schedule, so they'll be in different places on different days, during different times. You can now also interact with Bill, though this is still a work in progress.
You can forage more items and then ship these for money at the Town Hall. You can also take a nap now when you go to bed. You don't start out with all the items anymore, and have to actually work to get them.

Through necessity, really. There's no another dating sim where you play as a character in an overworld like in Harvest Moon, so I wanted to make one.
