Tailor Tales now has its own subforum! Be sure to visit it!

Spoiler:

Tailor Tales is a 100% 90% custom graphics game directed towards girls who want to play an English romance game similar to Harvest Moon, but with a lot more emphasis on the romance. Of course guys can play it too, but you can't marry any girls in the game. There are 4 bachelors in the game that you can marry, each with a unique personality. Unlike Harvest Moon where you just gives gifts to the person every day until they turn into a red heart, Tailor Tales makes you follow conversations and choose the right answer. The more right answers you choose, the more the bachelor will like you. Dialogue will also never be stale; all bachelors will say something different every day. For the NPCs, this will be every week. You still have the option to give gifts though. The other major part in Tailor Tales, besides the wooing of your guy, is tailoring. You can gather materials, weave them into yarn, weave it into cloth and then turn it into clothes for you to either sell, wear or gift.

All in all, Tailor Tales is not your average RPG game: there are no battles and no weapons. There is only romance and tailoring. With some cooking.

Tailor Tales starts with the player, Joselina (or Abigail, depending on how you choose), moving into a new town named Claner. She wants to open up her own clothing business and sew her own clothes. As you meet the chatty townsfolk, you will eventually wake up one night with some kind of animal going through your trash. As you walk outside to see what it is, you notice it's a fox digging into your trash. He looks at you and flees away towards the park where you will follow him. The fox then starts to speak! He says he is sorry for disturbing you out of your sleep and then proceeds to introduce himself. He explains that he is actually a human, but has been turned into a fox by a gypsy lady at the market. He's been like this for years, but couldn't find anything to turn him back into a human, until one day he stole a few scrolls from the same gypsy lady. On the scroll is explains what you need to return an animal back into a human. It says you need to make it some clothing with special ingredients. The fox asks you to collect these materials and make him a tuxedo so he can return back to normal. The key ingredient is 'love' to make all the magic happen, and if you have not made one person fall in love with you by the end of year 2, your game will end as you have failed your mission to help the fox.

Story is still subjected to change during early development.

Joselina or Abigail (you can choose between them) is the main character and player of the game. Once you start the game
you can edit her name to whatever you want. Her dream had always been to start
her own clothing shop. She is skillful at tailoring, along with weaving, sewing etc.
There isn't much to her personality as that is determined through the player.

Bachelors

Other characters

Tailor Tales will have a few features in the game:

  • About 90% original graphics (the other 10% being standard graphics that came with RPG Maker VX)
  • Choose between Joselina, the brunette, or Abigail, the blonde, as your playable character
  • Tailor clothing that you can sell, give away as a present, or wear yourself (you can only wear dresses)
  • Court five bachelors by talking to him, asking questions, or giving gifts
  • Be able to perform actions on the bachelors such as hugging, or kissing etc.
  • Everything runs on time, with there being 4 seasons, each having 20 days
  • Exterior maps will change with each season
  • NPCs have their own schedule every day, so sometimes their shop will be closed!
  • Original music composed by AngelsDen and Quesadilla
  • Cook dishes to replenish your stamina
  • Dig at the digsite for artifacts that you can gift or sell - there's a 100 floors to dig!
  • Collect rare Power Hearts by completing certain tasks to increase your stamina
  • Visit the weekly market on Saturdays to buy items you can't buy in town
  • Join in festivals twice a month
  • Each bachelor has 5 heart events in which you can decide its ending
  • Decorate or improve your house with your hard earned money
  • A custom weather system that includes rain, snow and storms

Screenshots can become outdated, or some stuff presented in it can be removed entirely.

Spoiler:

Feedback on this project is definitely welcome!

Damn I just love change! Good job, an rpg here without combat and leveling up, instead just nice casual gameplay which I am willing to spend my time in!
Looking forward to see this game make some progress! laugh.gif wink.gif

So, the plan was to drop in the Early Project Dev forum and randomly check out what's new and hot. Well, this is the first thread which I drop by and I have to say that i'm impress! Your concept of the game really break away from all the get-powerful-save-the-world scenario.

The striking feature of this project is, of course, the graphics! Nice graphics and art, we can see that you have put lot of effort on this side to bring something new to the RMing scene. Then come the concept of the game itself; build relationship with the bachelor, make your own cloth and trade them... its a nice game mechanic that you have there.

I think that it will be great if you have a small storyline to spice things up. Well, you are on the right track to use the Rainbow Dress as ultimate achievement but you can use this as a drive to make up a nice small story for your game. Instead of just buying the materials at festival/market, you can make Josalina to hunt for these material in some way. (hunting as in she will have to help people to get some material, other time the bachelor might help her to get the said material... well you get the idea.)

Overall, i'll say that its good to see project like that which breaks away from generic RMer games out there. Keep up the good work eh!

I wish I was that far enough for a demo! Haha. I won't have anything up to play until I have at least 50% done of all the characters' sprites and mugshots. Plus I also need to event the whole 'sell clothes at your shop' thing which I'm having trouble with. Until I figure that out, there won't be a demo, unfortunately.

Well the project is still in development, and so is its story. I do know I need something for the players to work towards. The first goal is to marry a bachelor, and after that it would be the Rainbow Dress. I'll definitely try to spice it up, otherwise people would get bored after they marry a bachelor haha. But I'd like to keep the story to a low level, as I want the game to focus a lot on the dialogue between you and the bachelor.

Thanks for everyone who responded! happy.gif I already seem to gather a fanbase here haha. I already got like 50 people wanting to try this game out (some even think I'm making this for the DS for some reason).

I may be a dude, but....MUST PLAY THIS blink.gif

This game is going to be amazing I can already tell, I'd just play it to see the artwork alone in action, but I already know I'll enjoy every aspect of it.

Kinda reminds me of Harvest Moon, except you're a tailor instead of a farmer.

I also came in here hoping for a demo, lol take your time, and know you got one more person who will try this out.

A few months ago? XD; I think I posted that screenshot like two weeks ago. That's when I started to become serious about making this game. I wish I had a demo to play (because I want to play it too!), but so far I'm still laying out the groundwork so I can build everything from there. First comes the graphics, then eventing the whole system and then I can add dialogue and maybe publish a demo smile.gif

Yay a guy who wants to play my game! I actually had a guy say to me they won't play the game, because it's for girls O_o

Also, this game will be almost exactly like Harvest Moon, but instead of farming, you got tailoring, so you were right about that wink.gif . I draw a huge inspiration from Harvest Moon in terms of courting bachelors and art, but I'll have a lot more dialogue between the player and bachelor unlike Harvest Moon where it's just two different lines of dialogue every month.

Right now I'm working on eventing the gifting system, and I'm having troubles with that. If anyone knows a script or knows how to event the whole gift giving thing, please drop by this thread to tell me!

Yay! A fresh take in rpgs and I really love simulation games! biggrin.gif It doesn't matter if its a girl (Heck, I've played through nearly the whole Harvest Moon series, including the girl versions xD) but are you by any chance making a boy version once this is complete? Just asking =X

Hope to see more of it soon and its demo release, I just can't wait lol

You're telling that to the person who said to her mother yesterday: "On September 11th we should go down to that parade they're having down at city hall at three." ...When it was six o' clock. ^ ^;;

And hey, I'm not that spazzy, it was like... slightly less than a month. lol

Yes, but everyone should take their time and not rush when creating a game. It takes time so even though some heads may implode from the anxiety, it'll be worth the pain.

Well first I need to finish this one, which will be a lot of work haha. But in case I do ever make a boy version after this one, I already implanted 4 girls in Tailor Tales that you COULD marry, that is - if I ever make a boy version haha.

Oh wow it was the 11th already? I really do lose track of time when working on my game. Don't worry, I'm bad with dates/times too haha.

To give you all a little teaser on what I'm working on, I'm working on making icons for the items right now, and I'm adding a calendar to the game. Here's a screenshot showing the icons:

And here are the first year calendars:

I haven't included the festivals on there yet, I was still in the middle of making up festivals haha.

I was going to do this 'professionally', I tried to get into a school for multimedia (animation/games/commercials etc). But they declined because the class was too full, so I didn't go back there anymore.

But if people want to pay for this so badly, I'll gladly set up a Paypal donation button XD

Here's another screenshot with the finished icons of all wool, cotton, flax and silk. The clothing items are still being made.
