To be able to do a good job I will need information about the scene and the context in which the music will be used and an indication of the tempo (slow/fast is fine a specific bpm is possible as well). Give me a clear idea of the mood the song should have and I will do my best to translate it to music and make a fitting theme. Example QUOTE I need a song for my game. I want to use it in a scene in which the hero of my game explores an abandoned castle that was once home to an evil wizard. The song should have a dark/mysterious mood. The tempo should be slow. I would really like it if you could use violins. Other users can use this theme as well if they like it. You can request a specific key, instrument and/or time signature. These are however not necessary. Themes I made for the games Walking The Plank, Cry Of The Fox, Descent and Throne Of Heresy are not for public use. If you want to use themes which I made for a specific requester, please contact that requester. You have my permission, but not unless the requester approves as well! I like your flair with MIDI instruments. You have a nice flow to your music, and your melodies are reminiscent of old-school Game Boy music.
So I just listened to all of your work here, and my personal faves are "Tension Rising" and the "Main Theme" MIDIs. The thing is, your short melodies are too short. And yes, those bended notes did sound off-key to me. I like the aim of mood and atmosphere in RPG music, and I think you hit it spot on - maybe too well, so it comes out a little cliche if you get my meaning, but not in a bad way at all. Keep up your composing! (Oh, and just a question from another musician: what software do you use to make your MIDIs?) -------------------- |

Do you think you could find a way write a melancholic or depressing theme using the piano? Are the falirs you use Trills, or are they arpeggios? -------------------- |

I've started making something a little bit depressing/melancholic for piano. Can't tell how fast it will go, but I'll try to work on it during the week. This is how much I've got at the moment: Tentacles' Piano Theme I'm still working on it. If it's not the atmosphere you're looking for, do tell me. If that's the case, I will make something different.
As for the question about arpeggios and/or trills; what song does that question refer to? Came up with this as well: Magical Forest Roelf, -------------------- |

I must say you have potential. It's just that most midi's have this harsh sound to them... I don't know, I never like that.
My favourite tracks: - Magical Forest - Piano Theme for Tentacles - Guitar Improv - Tension Rising By the way, the bended keys sound weird in here too. :/ I have a little request, if you don't mind. I'd love to get a music piece which symbolises disorder, like you sense that something big is happening, but nobody really knows what. Along the way you meet people in panic, fleeing from whatever is there. Maybe a bit like Tension Rising, but a little more chaotic and restless. Could you please do this for me? -------------------- My games: Ae Games ![]() Walking The Plank - Project topic - Development blog - Concept Art Gallery (DeviantArt) - Teaser » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

I dunno about you, but "Piano Theme for Tentacles" has an ... interesting ring to it
And yeah, let me say again: If you post your own resources here, you're going to get requests *looks at Aërendyll*. But you're not obligated to do them or anything. That said... I'd like to hear what you could do with that sort of atmosphere as well. -------------------- |

Thnx for the comments! I don't mind taking requests! But I don't know with what speed I'll be able to fullfill them.
I've come up with this: Aerendyll's Theme Please tell me if this is what you're looking for Aerendyll. If it is not the right mood, perhaps you can give me some more information on the setting for the music? About the sound quality. At the moment some instruments are really not sounding as well as they could sound. Staccato (which I use quite a lot) and bended notes sound terrible. I'll try to import these .mid's in Reason and use samples to convert them to mp3's with, hopefully, better sound quality! -------------------- |

About my theme: It's not bad. In fact, I do like it, but it is a bit too... Well. Unfitting for the thing I was requesting.
Setting of the scene: This is a memory from a character from long ago. His home town is being plundered and people are fleeing the town. Some people are being murdered and houses get burned and ruined. The character is shocked by what he sees and tries to find the leader of the raid in the middle of all the panic. That's basically it. I will use the midi you gave me, though. ^^ -------------------- My games: Ae Games ![]() Walking The Plank - Project topic - Development blog - Concept Art Gallery (DeviantArt) - Teaser » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

I've tried some things in Reason with Aerendyll's theme. It turned out completely different than the .mid :S:P The atmosphere got kind of lost. The instruments don't translate very well from .mid to sample. It's a really quickly done mix and it's an unfinished song. The dynamics are still a mess. I haven't really worked with this program before. So, I'll keep experimenting and working on it in order to improve it!
Aerendyll's Theme But it seems you need something a bit more dramatic. I can indeed understand this theme not to be fitting. I'll try to make something with the new information you gave. I could imagine a bit of a slower theme, as it is a memory, to make it a bit surealistic. Or would you like music more focussed on the action/fast flow of events? I also improved the sound quality of Tentacles' Theme Roelf, This post has been edited by RoelfMik: Jun 3 2008, 08:18 PM -------------------- |

I'd love to get music that is a bit more fast-paced, if possible.
Also, that MP3 version isn't half bad. -------------------- My games: Ae Games ![]() Walking The Plank - Project topic - Development blog - Concept Art Gallery (DeviantArt) - Teaser » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

This is certainly better, but it lacks some drums. The piece needs to be a bit more intense, though, as the scene I need explains a lot about the story.

QUOTE (Razvan-Sedekiah @ Jun 5 2008, 10:12 PM) These are... WONDERFUL! Thank you so much for sharing these! WONDERFUL!!!!! XD Thank you for the really nice comment! If you need any music just let me know! This is certainly better, but it lacks some drums. The piece needs to be a bit more intense, though, as the scene I need explains a lot about the story. I'm really not a drumkit hero, to be honest. So I can't promise you a very solid percussion On the other hand, if the theme is not yet fitting, adding drums might not be very practical because the music is not yet expressing the right atmosphere. That's why I think I should perhaps give it another try on the instrumental side of the music before adding percussion. Could you perhaps post five *or whatever number you think fitting I wrote a new theme: Piano and Flute.mid It's still a work in progress and I'll convert it into an mp3 file later!
