Intro
I've been using VX since it's been out but I have no complete rpg projects since I always think big when it comes to RPGs. So, this time I decided to do a simple adventure-horror game, more like a homage to my all time favs. The game runs for max and hour if you're stuck somewhere. Otherwise I'd say 40 minutes for your first time. Story Story takes place in 1886 and you assume the role of Dr Henry Smith. You wake up in a strange, eerie basement where you realize that you must solve riddles and face many hostilities to survive. You soon discover it's the Mansion of Sir Wilkins. You were invited by his wife to examine his mental health. Somehow you're taken away from your room and end up where the adventure starts. Characters Henry Smith Age:35 Profession:Psychiatrist Dr Henry Smith is a man of logic thrown in an illogical situation. During the course of the story he continually tries to put logic first, but he will soon discover that not everything can be explained. Travis O'Brien Age:28 Profession:Innkeeper Travis is cousin of Sir Wilkins wife and was there for a visit with his wife. He claims he was attacked and lost contact with her. He doesn't give away many details but his convinced that they are all in crave danger. Sir Wilkins Age:45 Profession:Factory Manager According to his wife Sir Wilkins has started loosing his sanity. He has been obsessed with certain forbidden cults and religions, and has been attacking people who get close to his study room. The day Dr Smith arrives to examine him, Sir Wilkins is tied down on his bed by his wife and servants. But when the strange events happen, he is free and dangerous. Screenshots ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Features The mechanisms of the game are simple adventure ones, where the only menu is the item menu, and you interact with most objects in order to proceed. Depending on your actions there are three majore endings and many sligth alterations of the previous. Full Game Version1.6 http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=5249779...2db6fb9a8902bda v1.6 Fixed some more bugs. v1.5 Added walkthrough, added more descriptions and fixed a bug. @Chrispy: thanks for replying I put up an early demo. Also updated the first post with it. Demo link : http://www.mediafire.com/?mymmtbmjnbm Also I'd like some suggestions about the battle part.. Should I make a event battle, or no battle?(the player has to avoid the enemy) This post has been edited by Min Chan: Jun 15 2008, 04:34 PM -------------------- Ravenwood Horror

I'm interested in the story, but macabre/horror always scares me if it involves gore. So no, I don't think I'll be able to play this game.

I'm usually not into these dark atmosphere horror RM games, but I'll give this a try. I'll post later on with my review.

The game is extremely well done in terms of atmosphere, but some gameplay mechanics seem a little difficult. Namely, chasing down many keys and having to solve a number lock are frustrating at best.
The clues are, how do I say it, clearly clues, but it's hard to figure out how to use them. Overall, it's a fun experience, just some things need fixed. (BTW, there is a glitch in the game where if a person uses the first small key they get on the drawer in the library's side room, it is impossible to move forward in the game) -------------------- Current RPG MAKER VX Project: Fatal Frame II: Illusions.

@Aerendyll: Thanks for posting even if you don't plan to play. But give it a try, you might like it.
@Shurite: Thanks, I'm waiting for it @DJ OMiY: Thanks for playing. I'm glad you liked the atmosphere. As for the game mechanics I agree. I plan to add battles and some better puzzles but I don't wanna rush it. The demo was made to show the basic layout of the game. Things are subject to change. I really could use some help with the mechanics though. If you have any suggestions, I'm more than open. Also about the glitch you say, there are many small keys hidden around. -------------------- Ravenwood Horror

Alright here's my review:
First of all it's very dark in game lol, I could barley even make out objects but I managed. The first little puzzle was easy, wasn't really even a puzzle anyway...But the damn password coded door, I couldn't get past it worth my life. There's nothing to gain information from, I read the book and got nothing from that. I read all the grave crosses and I had no clue what to do after that. I bet If I would've found the password I would've enjoyed myself more, but I was just blindly walking around with nothing to help me. On a positive note, I really liked the atmosphere, the music was great with it. So yeah all in all, really isn't my type of game. I got tired of these kinds of games when I used to play Resident Evil and such back in the day. But good effort and If you tweak it a bit I think it could become something great. Good luck! @Locust + @kuz + @shurite :Thanks for playing! I will give more clues about the puzzles according to your feedback, and probably change some completely. The demo was there to give you a taste of what the game is about.

Alright! Now that I've finally gotten past the first door puzzle, I can see that this game is actually really good. I love Silent Hill, so this game's right up my alley.
These door puzzles are driving me insane, though. This post has been edited by Locust: Jun 19 2008, 11:14 AM -------------------- Better Red Than Dead ![]() In a society that has abolished adventure, the only adventure left is to abolish the society. |

Argh I've gotten pretty far but I can't open that one chest in the cellar past the kitchen. Does the bottle catalogue have
something to do with it? I can't make sense of the numbers. Great game btw. |

min chan, this game is fucking excellent. like... really.
the only bug or error i could point out was that the wyvern statue on the left (our left) has a weird animation when you talk to it from the side. everything else is GOLDEN! i was definitely on edge the whole time, with the creepy resident evil music hahaha. i was on the phone with my friend when i walked into the room with the headless body and i screamed! hahaha i loved it. the puzzles were really great, and the watching the story unfurl is creepy and interesting. but i'm not sure where the demo ends. i definitely couldn't get past the chest where there's the clue with the bottles, which i'm guessing is what i needed to figure out to do anything else in the game. i seriously tried EVERYTHING, and i had two other people working on it with me, and with every mathematical weird ideas we got, we couldn't crack that code. so maybe that should be a little easier (or fix a bug there, if there is one, or something). otherwise, GREAT JOB and i can't wait to play more!! : D -------------------- |

@cowking + dariannn: First of all thanks for playing! I'm glad you liked it!
For the cellar chest riddle you're both right. There is a clue missing, even though if you like a weird stroke of genius you can still make it. Anyway a new demo is coming soon and all of the issues mentioned should be fixed. For the riddle the answer is » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « hahah oh that's so funny, that's probably the one thing i DIDN'T try. seriously.. i was on that thing for like an hour! so i just messed around with that, the balcony is really nice. i like the blurred parallax thing you do. maybe put a save option before you end the demo like that, though? just in case for people who don't save often or something. i'll be waiting on that next demo :D -------------------- |
