- The Plot -
Three years ago Reverie Norwayne suffered an accident which impaired her from doing a lot of things. In this lapse of time she unwillingly grew dependent of her parents. Now healthier, in one last attempt to show them how she's responsible and can be on her own, she tells her parents she can take care of a manor her Father has just acquired. Little does she know that in that manor, an ancient secret was brought from over seas and will soon show her that the life she's lived is nothing but a reflection of her true self.


- The Mystery -
After finding a strange box within the manor, Reverie uncovers that she's not the first to have revealed this secret to a force she could not comprehend. She must now put pieces together from clues, that of which others left behind with a help of a cursed Mirror. As she does this, she can't help but wonder, if she's just another deja vu.



- The Reasons -
Seven Generations of families; one manor. Many things happen within a family's lifespan, many of which aren't desirable and can pray on newer generations. But if anything, it gives newer generations history of their ancestors. Tales, legends and stories to be past down to predecessors for years to come... Death, vengeance, disease, narcissism, humiliation, greed, insanity and arcaneness. All attitudes, feelings and mentalities that can stain the surrounding space. Things you can feel with the skin after they may long be gone. As Reverie goes in deeper into the history of the manor, she begins to understand why she's there. She begins to understand the reasons behind the cursed mirrors.

THE MANOR (World Development)
|||||||||||||||||||||||

The Duvaldi Manor was made in 1810, and has gone restoration eight times in the last 200 years, with a ninth restoration being done by Stevan Norwayne. The manor served eight families, excluding generations of the same family, as well as the current family. Through each restoration, new rooms, hidden and not, were made, it was also known that the basement was extended for large storage purposes.

The manor was placed originally in a 21,487 Square Foot Property, but through the years the count has decreased. This property also held: six wood cabins, two pools houses, a tennis court, a large front yard, a checkpoint, and several garages and sheds. Being that the nearest hospital or clinic is 42 miles away, it also held a private health center.

Through the years several mysteries have surrounded the manor, but none of which have been proved or shown to originate from the property. It had always seemed that the mysteries that happened within the grounds of the property, were not because of the manor itself, but rather the people who came and inhabited. As such, the manor was never considered as "haunted" or even to house paranormal activity, by any type of researcher.

The manor stands quiet, and quite sturdy for it's age. Welcoming the guests and families that move in. But that's just what we see; through the eyes of a cursed mirror, the house is the exact opposite: it's unrestrained, unsettling and violent. But even then it's not the house itself, but what has been brought to it; demise, despair and fear. Feelings and sentiments, that through the mirror have stained the dark walls of the manor.

At the end of the day however, it's just a house, with a nasty reflection.

#1 - Reverie Norwayne

Spoiler:
"A 22-year-old girl who's attitude reflects a teenagers most of the time, but she's really mentally mature, and although she dislikes showing that side, she tends to try to rub it off on people who she believes are mentally challenged.

She was born from a wealthy family, and raised as such. However, she prefers a more middle-class lifestyle by not taking money that would other wise be entitled to her. She likes to be independent and wishes someday she'll fully be liberated from her parent's wings.

To her dismay, an accident affected her health three years ago, rendering her dependent even more of her parents. During her recovery period she had many nightmares and night terrors, but she understood through all that, that it was just the effects of medicines and the condition she was in, and further understood that her fear was nothing more than a medical condition. This mindset through time, allowed her to think of fear as just a feeling of occurrence of circumstances and not really a factor that would endanger life or conceive it as a sensation of demise.

Nowadays she's healthier and soon hopes to get out on her own, and live by herself. And in her last attempt of goodwill toward her parents to show them she's responsible enough to depart, she goes to take care of a mansion her father has acquired. Little she knows that in that manor, an ancient secret was brought from over seas and will soon show her that the life she's lived is nothing but a reflection of her true self."












#2 - Jade Williams

Spoiler:
""Jade is a 23-year-old girl and a long time friend of Reverie. Unlike Reverie, she's middle class and tends to be kinder to people, she's shy, but awkwardly fierce among friends. Despite this, her kindness is genuine and appreciated by her peers and people she knows. She's known to try to make her appearance unique and very different from Reverie's.

She's helpful, reliable and quite trustworthy, however her shyness doesn't allow her to do much outside her friend circle, therefore, although kind, she's just another girl to most people she doesn't know.

After Reverie's accident, Jade was the only friend that stayed with her at the hospital, hence inspiring Reverie to grow fond of her and keep her closer than anybody else. And although she dislikes how Reverie can muse herself with people, she likes to think of herself as her control. ""







#3 - Rosaline Norwayne

Spoiler:
"Rosaline is Reverie's mother. A charming woman for her 40s, and an unusual indoor sorter, makes Rosaline a good example of a weird mother to Reverie. Although she's lived in wealth for over 15 years, she's been generous to those who she could be to, including Reverie. It could be this quality which made Reverie dislike the higher-class of a world she grew up in. Although Reverie had what she wanted, Rosaline not always allowed her to keep it for long because it would usually end up in charity. However to this day, Rosaline cannot understand where Reverie got her edgy attitude. She believes that after Reverie's accident, the nightmares and visions Reverie had, made her stronger in the wrong way. After all, Rosaline saw how Reverie used to be more girly."






#4 - Emely Sarpaneva

Spoiler:
"Emely was a 19 year-old girl who lived in the manor Reverie went to to take care of, more than a hundred years ago. She was a delicate girl with a rare disease that was consuming her life, and although she lived in depression, she tried to hide it with her convincing smile. Several things kept her happy through life however, such it was a collection of Victorian-style dresses, which she loved and protected.

She wasn't known to have a social life outside her family, mainly because she didn't believe in making anybody else suffer after she passed away, but it was known that she was very attached to her father who was an artist. He told him on the day the disease had taken a stronger course in her body, to make a painting of her every two weeks until she died, and that in return she would sing for him. This way, she said, 'I'll live on forever.'"







#5 - Glacelle

Spoiler:
"Glacelle is a mysterious girl that is supposedly only seen in dreams. She's a bouncy, spirited and strange, and wields an umbrella, from which she can spontaneously create many sorts of items. She often directs to people as if it was their lucky day, however, people who have dreamed about her have ended up losing their memory and belongings. Though, in every instance of her appearance, people have described the surroundings as "a fantasy mirror wonderland." '"









#6 - Isaac Duvaldi

Spoiler:
"Isaac Duvaldi, or simply Duvaldi as he liked to be called, was the original owner of the Duvaldi manor. He was a recognized illusionist and magician, as well as a wealthy chemist and inventor. He started off as a scientist at a young age, but as he gained knowledge on various ways to trick people thanks to new sciences and technology, he began to do illusions. Soon enough he acquired enough fame to make his own tours across Europe, and in some parts of the middle east.

After having build a solid base of wealth, he stepped away from performing for a time and built the manor to do further research on new illusions. During this time he was fascinated from what he could do with different kinds of mirrors which pushed him to try to find and make every kind he could. For a long time he made many kinds of mirrors and other reflective surfaces, after having found some rare pieces over the world. But he wasn't satisfied he wanted more. However his research was halted when his funds where being taken after his family decided that he had gone insane. He then went back to make illusions, but there was something wrong with them; they were too real... after losing his audience he desperately tried new illusions but he couldn't make new ones at his home. He always blamed his family for the failure that he now lived in and hoped that one day some would befall them.

He died performing one of his illusions which consisted of four mirrors reflecting his supposed beheading. In his last diary page, just days before he died, he noted that the illusion had been a success in the manor."

{ Game Features }
------------------

`- { Stamina System }
Spoiler:
Player will perform actions in real time and it will be reflected in a stamina bar. These actions will vary from running, pushing heavy objects, battling enemies, and other subtancial actions in the game.




`- { Fear System }
Spoiler:
When sudden events or moments in the game happen that scare Reverie, the fear gauge will commence to deplete. As it depletes, the player's screen will become different depending on the amount left. This goes from blurriness to blindness. Once the fear gauge is depleted, the player will go into panic (adrenaline) mode, in which the character cannot attack but will also be granted increased Health and unlimited amount of Stamina for a short time until Panic Mode secedes.




`- { Panic Mode }
Spoiler:
Once the fear gauge depletes, the player will enter into Panic Mode. In this state, Reverie's vision is returned to 75% normal, given %15 more health and an unlimited amount of Stamina. However in panic mode the player cannot attack and therefore is forced to either: run from the danger, or use the environment to assist her against the danger. After seconds of inactivity her status will return to normal, but if Panic Mode is continued for a prolonged period of time, damage dealt to Reverie will start to dramatically increase. Be aware that some dangers and puzzles can only be beaten and achieved during Panic Mode. It will be essential for the player to understand when Reverie is scared and what she's scared of.




`- { Peruse Mode }
Spoiler:
A large part of the game is advanced through Peruse Mode. Certain objects can be examined and inspected for clues and/or objects. Usually objects that can be examined are note worthy in the map, or required by the game to inspect. Once you enter in Peruse mode, you're taken to another screen in which you see the item enlarged, and are able to inspect it. In many cases these items or objects, are art pieces that need to be inspected, if so, using your mouse you will have to carefully check and click where you think a clue might be. As the game progresses you'll gain some tools in order to help you with more difficult puzzles and inspections.








`- { Puzzle Book }
Spoiler:
Puzzles are not scarce within the game, and many prove challenging. Luckily, Reverie carries around a puzzle book in which she writes down puzzles she's visited and information, clues and other hints about it. Certain puzzles even have reqards towards others, if this is the case, Reverie is sure to write it down.






`- { Mirrored }
Spoiler:
Diving into cursed mirrors will be one of the most efficient ways to get around in "Mirror". When the player goes through a mirror, the world is reversed, allowing the player to see part of what couldn't be seen before. However, when the player is mirrored, Reveries dives into a potential amount of danger. Dangers within the reversed universe lurk within shadows, objects and even items. Furthermore, while the player is mirrored, the space around you is dark and hostile, making the player weaker and prone to more damage. However, Reverie is not the only one affected; dangers within the mirrored space have specific weaknesses which can be exploited if known, but is up to the player to find those out.

While mirrored, some items change color, position (besides where their mirror coordinates should be), and could even disappear. It is important for the player to understand which items change for the worst and which can be changed to the player's advantage,











`- { Therapy Journal and Clue Indicator }
Spoiler:
After Reverie had her accident, and months of therapy, doctors believe she was left a bit unstable. Instead of giving her more therapy sessions, they decided to give her a therapy journal for her to write her thoughts on current events on her life. However, she had never used this tool, because of how idiotic it was. Upon entering what is to be her room in the mansion she finds that her journal has been brought to her by her parents. Although she finds it silly, she at a point decides to use it for a better purpose besides her thoughts; writing down clues. Every clue she finds, as well as what she does through out the game will be written down by her in the journal. This way she can keep track of important things such as: item locations, clue locations, and destinations. However finding those clues will be your job.

Finding clues might be difficult to find, but not to spot. Once Reverie finds something that can be considered a clue, an indicator will appear over her head, usually being a question about the item or object she's reviewing. At times these questions along with the item, may be marked in the Therapy Journal for later reviewing. However, some clues are needed to be stringed together quickly, if this is the case, Reverie will not write it down. Take note, that you may not gather clues in Panic Mode.






`- { Log Scanner }
Spoiler:
There are many dangers in Mirror, and it is important to know what to do in and on each specific danger. That's where the Log Scanner comes in. The Log Scanner is a cellphone size device that Reverie had from her parents, it allows her to log information on items, objects, and many dangers. The process happens automatically whenever you encounter an item, object or danger for the first time. Information on the player's surroundings is crucial, the Log Scanner keeps most of it for the player's research. The Log Scanner will not only become useful against dangers, but it may as well hide clues and hints of certain puzzles in the game.






`- { Phone }
Spoiler:
Within the world of Mirror, Reverie will need anything personally attached to her to figure out what is going on within the manor. The phone Reverie carries will help her overcome many obstacles and as well create a few. It will provide her with light, outside contact, and even contact with things unknown. However, electrical devices seem to work differently with a mirrored space, and features which help Reverie in the regular realm, may not be as useful in the reverse realm.

I've put too much effort into this game, even to the extents of hiring voice actors and other artists . I almost have this game one year in the making, so hopefully I'll finish it this year, perhaps by Halloween.

Also there are obviously scripts I am using from users who posted their work on this site, I don't claim ownership of any. Soon enough I'll post the entire script library I am using, as well credit the scripters in the thread, as well on the website when more information is added.

Also good amount of artwork is self-made or done specifically for this project by other artists. There are still other non-custom pieces however.

Music isn't custom, however most pieces were gathered from sites that had a forgiving license.

So everything is copyright of their distinctive owners. I am not making a profit out of this; I wish, but I have actually invested money in it and stuff.

Quite impressive.

You seem to have put a lot of focus on your story(which makes me automatically like it) Not only that but you seem to have MANY gameplay features which is quite unique and the game concept in general is very nice.

I haven't actually read much of the story just yet, but I will defiantly get on that, as this project is well presented and has defiantly grabbed my attention. smile.gif

EDIT: Just read the story background, that is a very nice plot and you explained it very well to make me want to play it.

Your character is also very realistic and well developed. I also liked how you descried the Manor itself in terms of world development consider how that basically is where the story centers. You also descried it very thoughtfully that I really enjoyed reading it all.

What I really like about this story is how it;s not the house itself thats haunted(because thats been done a billion times) But it's something else that has been brought to it, its a neat twist and really brings out more of the mystery.

Again very nice work. If you ever do get a user bar, than I will be more than happy to place it in my signature smile.gif

Wow. I must admit, this looks incredible. The concept is unique; mirroring something isn't something I would've thought of. You have quite a few game modes/features which seem to compliment each other nicely; Perusing reminds me a lot of Visual Novel style games like Trace Memory or Phoenix Wright. The combination of a Fear Gauge and a Panic Mode is arguably standard for a commercial horror/thriller, but for an RMVX game to sport this is quite an achievement. Perhaps it's because I haven't actually played through the game, but the presence of the journal/log book seems to be quite standard as well.

Overall, this looks somewhat like a cross between Trace Memory/Phoenix Wright and Silent Hill, with RPG elements thrown in. Quite an interesting combination.

Ingenious!

This is a really interesting game, you certainly have worked very hard on it and your effort shows.

And that mirror gameplay is well ingenious, you're actually making the camera angle of RMVX games into a game element. Just wow, that is the best idea I've seen since Portal.

Thank you guys for the support! We're working hard to get a demo out soon, but we are still dealing with some small crickets here and there.
Also I'll be updating the thread with some content next week, such as some more pics, more feature info, more characters, new screenshots, and probably new art!

As for a bar I'll be making one this upcoming week for those that wish to support the project.

In the mean time, have some filling on a custom boss sprite and a Diary note from the game about it.

"... As I broke the seal of the Mirror, a snake like creature plunged out from the depths of my reflection. It was an enormous monster! I felt that this was truly my end, however it could not move; all it did was growl and snarl at me, as it stared me with it's evil eyes.

I found out that monster itself had seals, similar to that found in Methera's Box . I right away knew this monster could not attack me, until it's seals were broken or destroyed, which led me to a conclusion; somebody's been here before, and I am undoing what that person so strivingly tried to seal away."
