Attention: If you're a curious fellow reading my older posts, I will be remaking this thread in a few days with new content and what not. I've been working on this recently.

Spoiler:

Spoiler:
This is a world where a person’s memories, personality, and emotions can be downloaded, turned into data, and stored. Even if a body dies, the persona can live on and be transferred to a new body, one that was either cloned by a lab, or stolen through darker means.

Bad memories can be erased, and good ones downloaded. Certain knowledge can be stripped from a person’s mind permanently, or used to further someone else’s motives.

All this has been going on since the creation of this technology, constantly watched over by The Eternal King, and his army of loyal soldiers, Senators, and secret police.

While those with money rejoice in unending happiness in floating cities, many are still left below on this planet’s surface, living in crowded and deplorable conditions, working to support the lifestyle of those above.

It is on this surface Betroon’s story unfolds, surrounded by gangs, revolutionary factions, hidden organizations, and an increasingly degrading world. It is up to him to shape his own destiny, and chose his own path. Will he be the hero that finally frees the people of The Hubs from their plight? Or will he seek another way, and carve his own path of power on the surface world?

Spoiler:
.:Agencies:.

The Kings Men - The Kings Men (TKM /The KM) serve as The Monarchy's Army and Police force. Well hated by everyone on The Surface besides The Loyalists, they are viewed as the pinnacle of corruption and evil. The KM’s main goal is to restore peace and order to the troubled Surface, they do this through what some view as violent and criminal-like means. The Loyalists see it as a necessary action that must be done to restore law.

TKM is often over-whelmed by the factions opposing them and have little time to hunt Body Snatches or Gangs. Instead desperatly trying to undermine the power RED and Overture are rising against them.

The Eden Corporation - Eden Corp. (Eden) is focused on bringing commerce, jobs, and ecology back to the surface. However, in the 132 years since its creation, they have yet to achieve this goal. They are funded by The Monarchy and are in charge of the water filtration, the artificial sun, and infrastructure. They employ a large amount of the work force and the factories owned by them are either guarded by TKM Soldiers, or their own private military.

They have been highly criticized by those on the surface for the slave-like working conditions and are generally blamed for the bad condition of the Hubs. The most noted critics of Eden tend to end up missing. Eden sells a large variety of products to the over-world and the surface world.

.:Gangs:.

Silver Phantom - They supply the majority of the drugs to The Hubs and also have a share of the gun manufacturing market. They are liked by most as they don't actively hurt the public, as long as the money comes in they don't complain.
They are sometimes viewed as the weakest of the gangs, as they have to rely on Guns to be able to fight effectively.

18 Families - A collection of gangs that operate out of Hub 18's "The Stop" district. They rule the districts they control like a stern government, collecting taxes and sending Gang members to patrol the streets. They claim to protect the people who live inside there areas from the harms of The Surface, doing criminal acts that benefit both them, and the people.

The Dusters - An umbrella orginization for Mercenaries, not criminal or political in there own eyes. They simply work for what ever group pays them too, there loyalty is with who ever pays them.
Either feared or disliked by the common citizens for the brutal tactics they employ to accomplish there jobs, The Dusters how ever never attack anyone unless in defense or they are being payed too.

The Syndicate - They control the vice in certain Hubs. Prostitution, gambling, alcohol, drugs, and anything else banned by the government. They are well liked by most people, but hated by the other major gangs.
They tend to stay hidden within the clubs and brothels and are known for being stealthy when it comes to violent action. Rumors exist they have ties to the Body Snatchers.

.:Factions:.

Overture – To many, Overture is a radical bunch of terrorists with no real goal. To its members, and the few that support them, they are something different. They are Anarchists at heart, and believe no form of government will solve the problems that constantly hurt the people around them. They also have a radical view against Bit Chips, they believe that they are currently too dangerous to be used while they are regulated by The King’s Men, and actively encourage people to have them modified or removed.
Overture lacks in numbers, but they make up for this in strength. They are a collection of dedicated saboteurs, assassins, and soldiers that seek to take down any system of government, while trying to fix what they view as problems with Bit Chips.

RED – RED is a collection of communist and socialist revolutionaries dedicated to bringing a more fair and just government to the land. What they lack in strength, they make up for in numbers. Every Hub claims to have its own RED Squadron, who actively tries to defend the rights of the people from the aggressions of The King’s Men and local gangs.

Mezkuula – A cult based around little understood believes, operating from hidden enclaves across the surface. They are primarily responsible for Body Snatchers. They actively search for the most appealing bodies across The Hubs, and send out there feared forces to kidnap targets and remove the Bit-Chips within them. They then in turn sell these bodies to those in the Uppercity. This practice is heavily outlawed but little can be done to enforce it.

Loyalist - The Loyalists, or Royals, are essentially anyone allied with TKM Agents or The Monarcy who live on The Surface. The Loyalists believe that the TKM's operations to restore peace to The Hub's is constantly undermined by the other factions and gangs, they seek to help TKM by any means.
There is talk how ever, that The Loyalist's no longer support The Eternal King, and seek to put someone new into his throne.

Spoiler:

Doctor Betroon Mil
Age: 27
Occupation: Doctor/Pharmacist
Born into a less then functional family that was considered poor even to the standards of Hub 14, Betroon became angered with his life and sought something better. At the age of 17 he left his family behind and joined up with a mercenary squadron. 5 years later, he returned to Hub 14, only to find his family torn apart by Body Snatchers and gang-related murder. He decided to leave his Mercenary life behind and start a new one in the company of his only surviving family-member, his Grandfather, a well respected Pharmacist and Doctor.

In the last years of his life, Betroon’s Grandfather taught him all he needed to know about the world of Medicine. Betroon a now successful pharmacist is finding it once again hard to cope with the day to day life of a meager existence within The Hubs. He can’t help to feel he is destined for greater things and the chaotic world around seems to be eager to feed his ambitions.

Nepotine Flet
Age: 25
Occupation: Terrorist
Nepotine is the leader of small RED faction operating inside Hub 14. After losing most of his family to gang war-fare in The Hubs he began to work full time at an Eden Corp. Factory. He quickly heard about the exploits of RED and became fascinated with how they operated. He jumped at the chance to join them and quickly rose through the ranks due to his intelligence and excellent combat skill. During his time as a RED Soldier he befriended Betroon who was often paid to assist him and his comrades.

After drawing too much attention to himself a squadron of The King’s Men attacked his house, Nepotine was able to lead a successful defense and push-back against the onslaught, earning him the title of General amongst RED. However, during the attack he lost what remained of his family, something that still pains him till this day.
Nepotine is starting to become distanced from RED and it’s teachings. He seeks personal gain, rather than being a hero figure for people to look up towards.

Yuuilen Secc
Age: 26
Occupation: Nurse

Yuuilen was born above the clouds to a middle class family. She quickly became distanced from the lives of the wealthy and joined TKM instead of completing her medical studies at University. She worked as a field medic, hoping to live an adventurous life helping those on the surface. How ever, she simply healed the wounds of the soldiers that would often attack morally questionable targets, such as civilian stores or schools. She eventually abandoned the military and wondered The Surface before ending up in Hub 14. It was here she met Betroon, and agreed to help run his clinic.

A very knowledgeable and intelligent person, that works as Betroon's secretary and assistant. She has very strong morals, and helps those in need. She has how ever agreed to follow Betroon on where ever life leads him, even if it's not the path she originally intended to walk down.

Rascor
Age:38
Occupation: Shaman

Rascor is an ex-Mezkuula cultist, he has much knowledge about the strange powers the Mezkuula posses, and has declared himself a Shaman. He has mystical powers that let him preform powerful curses and spells in battle. He does not talk much of his past, as he dreads what he has done for The Body Snatchers, he now seeks to make it up to the world he once attacked, by following Betroon in the hopes of doing some good work.

Although he claims to be a good man now, he seems to not be disturbed when evil happens around him.

Spoiler:
  • Original Soundtrack
  • Original and exciting world
  • Open-ended gameplay
  • Unique party members
  • Alignment System
  • Sci-fi/Dystopian world

In The Color of The Mind you play as Doctor Betroon, a highly ambitious man that believes he is destined for much greater things then being stuck behind a counter selling Pharmaceuticals.
The "main story" evolves according to critical actions you choose to make. There are quite a few different storylines depending on how you choose to act, and who you choose to side with. There is no Good or Evil ending, the story shifts depending if you care for helping the people, a certain faction, or simply gaining power only for yourself and the few who follow you.

The game has no bars telling you "You are good" or "You are evil". You can only find out this information from your party members, who will react to how you behave.
Depending on how you treat each faction, by accepting missions against/for them will determine how they treat you. Treating them well will allow you to access there factional shops, and allow for the recruitment of certain party members. How ever, almost all missions you take will have a negative effect on some group.

Scripts:
Syvkal's Ring Menu
Syvkal's Menu Bars
Prexus - Party Manager
Deadly Dan's Menu System
ziifee's Battle System

.: Closing Comments

I'm currently working on this alone and I wouldn't mind changing that. The thing that would help out the most would be someone skilled in creating effective skills, weapons, and armor. As I'm pretty bad at balancing those sort of things out. If you are interested in helping me out just send me a PM over the forum.

Right now I'm really just looking for feedback and to see if people have interest in this. Feel free to ask me questions about the story or game-play, as I don't think I covered everything in this post.

The general idea of this whole thing sounds extremely intriguing. I love the whole "download good memories, and erase the bad." Once you find a good place to pause and release a demo, I'll be the first to try it. (Hopefully)

Interesting concept, I also like the idea of alternate endings. Just wondering what the missions involve because to me this sounds like its going to be a grinding game. Great Logo by the way.

Yeah that whole concept is the general focus of the game and what it revolves around as it's a major part of society.

Missions are really diverse depending on who you choose to accept from. Yeah I'll admit that it's generally you are going to be fighting a lot of people, but I can promise you the environments and battles you fight are interesting. For example, with gun-wielding enemies theres the choice to simply break the gun, and stop them from using it too deal mass damage, or taking them out and getting the gun as an item drop.

How ever, there are some missions where you just go around and talk to people and make moral choices, and then there are the others where you try to set up a proper ambush, or prepare to defend a key location.

Oh and thanks for the title compliment. Heres the actual title-screen logo thingy incase you care tongue.gif

Oh I also want to point out that in each city theres a pretty good number of wondering citizens who you can talk too who each have there own little story with small branching dialogue options. The atmosphere is something I try to focus heavily on this game. That's why I added things like the ability to put up posters to show support for a faction, interactive brothels, drug-dealers, poets who will sell you poetry books, theres a lot of more content then going off and killing a bunch of people for what ever group you support if you search for it.

ha ha I do care about the title screen its simple yet it portrays the main theme. You have a lot interesting ideas involving battles and ideas that will break up linearity in the game. The originality of the game really appeals to me as well as it being story driven and searching is one of my favorite things I thoroughly explore maps and click everywhere I can't help it. It sounds like making this game will be complicated but I can't wait till you finish it. Good Luck!

Haha, I thought people had no interest in this thing. I got 2 replies and then it just fell a few pages so I stopped looking at it.

It's definitely not a "dead' project. I'm still working on it but do to Work and College my time schedule is kind of tied up. I can still answer any questions you have about how the game will pan out or what it's like, and I will try and get more screen shots up.

Taking away bad memories and adding good ones. That sorta sounds like what a sinister villian who wants to make the world perfect would do. But it's interesting.
