Download the script pack here. WinRAR is required to unpack the file. Download it here. Script pack includes: - KGC's Tileset Extension script + program - OriginalWij's Fixed Picture script - Modern Algebra's Animated Parallax script KGC's Tileset script was made for Windows XP, and sometimes it doesn't work on Windows Vista or 7. Try running a virtual Windows XP to run the program, and if that doesn't work, you can download a demo project with the settings already configured here: http://www.mediafire.com/?f3enhyl5a7co3 IceDragon made a script that uses directional passabilities as well. If KGC's script isn't working for you, try out IceDragon's. I don't know anything about the tileset program, so if you're having problems, please do not ask me, I know as much as you. Just thought I'd point out that there's a typo in this thread's description. Fixed! Although I did notice another error, in the tutorial itself. I posted the last screenshot without the lighting layer ticked on, so it has no special lighting. Woops. Edit: uploaded the fixed tutorial with the correct screenshot. |

I can't believe this topic hasn't received more replies. Very insightful tutorial, Celianna. Hopefully, it will allow me to avoid those mapping
errors that I make, which you are so fond of pointing out. Jokes aside, I'm sure it will help many intermediate mappers in the future. -------------------- |

Well, I hope you'll be able to deal with the passage settings a lot better now, especially since KGC's Tileset Extension allows for different passage settings which is really helpful with parallax mapping

Thanks, then I probably won't even need to use tilesets in the future. Now that would be awesome. No tilesets ever = unlimited possibilities.

@laine,
I wouldn't scrap tilesets altogether. It's extremely comforting to know you've got a set of tiles there in case and it's very useful to have them to map out a foundation or mock of the map you want to make. Then again that's my opinion X3 ... I bet Cel could pull a map out her ass and it would be better than anything I've ever planned -------------------- |

Nah, I haven't ruled out tilesets as a whole either. Parallaxing does have one small downside. The image files used to make the maps ( that is, if all your maps are parallaxes ) can make the game size rather large. And it's not so good for people with slow internet connections like myself. ^^

I don't think it works on 64bit Windows. Never worked for me either and I never really bothered with trying to fix it.

This probably won't work, but have you tried setting the compatibility mode to run on XP when executing the program? Here's how to do it.

No, that makes no difference. No idea what the message says since it's in Japanese so it makes it difficult to correct. No big deal for me, but I am sure some other folks will have this issue.

Hmm, how about running a virtual windows XP then? I don't have 7, so I wouldn't know, but it's worth a shot, right?

You really can'T use this program under win7, even with administrative and compatiblity modes... and the virtual machine thingy seems to be the only option like celianna stated.
Anyway... alot of thanks to Celianna for this tutoial.. it helped me alot doing paralax mapping. -------------------- |

I don't suppose there is an alternative script of some kind to KCG's?
Also, really great tutorial! |

Thank you for your great tutorial
I will practice parallax mapping with this help. BTW is it possible to upload the demo of this castle map? I think it would be very useful to understand how your map actually looks like. Thanks |
