This is a great tutorial. I used it in combo with SamGreen's and I really can grasp parallaxing. It seems to be pretty self-explanatory once you grip it. But I do have a question. All the different "tilesets" that you use. I saw you in the video selecting them from it looked like layers. How did you actually put your Parallax tilesets into the canvas so that you were able to select them as you did in the video. Sorry for sounding like a noob but honestly I really want to learn this and it is minor details that get me stuck.

Oh ... those are my original tilesets when I created them. As I make new things, I put them on new layers and name them, but layers get erased once I save them as a .PNG that I release for public use. It's not really any different, in fact the layers make it messier since I have so many objects it takes me a while to find the right layer. If it's all flattened to one layer, I can just select something and copy it real fast.
But really, all you do is open up the image in Photoshop (the tileset), and then you simply select the objects inside of it, copy it, and paste it onto your map. |

Hi~ First of all, I wanted to thank you for this really easy-to-understand tutorial
There's just one very big problem: the Tileset Tool doesn't work, no matter what I do. I can't understand japanese so I don't know what it says, but according to this thread, it's a problem with Vista; I have Windows 7. Is there any other alternative I could use? |

Well as I suggested before; try running a virtual Windows XP then try the program again. You only need to do this once.
There are no other programs I'm aware of that do this. |

Awesome job not reading a whole page back. Cel, if you haven't already, maybe put this info in your first post. I don't think this was made with Windows 7/Vista in mind. They are a lot different than XP when it comes to program installs, especially 7. -------------------- Trailer for It Came From Yesterday: Click Me

There, it's now in the OP that KGC's program isn't compatible with anything other than Windows XP.
One of the reasons I still use XP <3 |

Hey, Cel! Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial.
But, unfortunately the Tileset Tool isn't working for me even though I use Windows XP, anyone knows why is that, or how can I fix it? |

What do you mean not working? Can you tell me what happens when you try to open the program?

I seriously have no clue, it's in Japanese after all.
Guess you're just unlucky. |

Hmmm... that explains why I can't use the Tileset tool either. I'm on Vista as well. >< Guess I'll never do advanced parallaxing.
I hate Vista... -------------------- |

Well guys, if you want it so bad, why don't you send your project file to me, and I'll set it up real fast and send it back to you. It's a one time thing only anyway, once the directional passabilities have been set by the program you can keep using it without using the program ever again.

Thanks, Celianna, but I'd rather just stick to normal parallaxing. I don't have a need ( yet ) to use advanced parallaxing, but when I do, I'll be sure to send my 60+ odd MB file to you.

Is there an update to the VX Tileset Tool program compatible for Windows 7 yet?

Well, one is an OS, and the other runs a virtual version of it on your current OS. Have never tried it though, since you know, I still got XP.

Really good tutorial, thanks Celianna, this has helped me a lot.
Also, I run Windows 7 and can't use that program, but if you apply yourself and think about the problems you're faced with, it is possible to get by without it. I'd encourage people not to give up parallaxing just because they can't use that feature. -------------------- |
