@ArcaneAnouki:
We have a really great tutorial forum that could really help you out - not just with Parallax mapping, but also with other areas of game development. I really encourage you to browse and check out some threads. There's also a "Search" button at the very top of the page that will allow you to search this forum only. That way, you won't be redirected to random websites as you would with Google. Plus, this is what people refer to when they tell you to search for something :3 Here are two threads specific to Parallax Mapping: Parallax Mapping for Beginners by SamGreen Advanced Parallax Mapping by Celianna The second one has a video of Parallax in action. The concept is really pretty simple. It's just like mapping through VX engine, only you have absolute control over the placement. Instead of a whole tile, you can place objects half a tile away, or even 2 pixels. Pretty neat! |

Hopefully I can repay your efforts soon with some brand new steampunk maps. |

Hey Lunarea and Celianna, I made character sets for the animated water tiles in case people don't want to use the animated parallax script. In addition, I animated a few of the gears in character sets as well if you want to add them to the OP that's up to you.

I actually decided against turning the water into characsets because that meant you'd have to create several events to get streaming water and would create lag. But hey, thanks anyway. Shame you couldn't place the fountain in its own character set, because this takes up 4 events trying to piece it together.

Here's the Fountain as a separate character set
Make sure to put a $ before the filename or it won't show up correctly. i.e $FountainofAwesomeAlso, you'll need to put events on both sides of the Fountain event to block people from walking up through the sides. This post has been edited by Garge: Apr 4 2011, 10:49 PM |
