Class and Character Selection [Warning: Recommended 1 week+ with RMVX before attempting. Trust me] (Utilizes switches, self-switches, and many other aspects of eventing) Please note, this is only one way, which is very simple and offers no support to change any of the following: Parameter Curve EXP Curve Starting Equipment Options (Two hand style, super guard, etc.) Hey, everyone. This is Seppie from AB RPG and today I'm going to show you how to make a character and class selection screen, the simple way. To start things off, you'll need a nice selection platform, like so... Spoiler: Next, you'll need to change your database. Pick a number, and delete it it all. Like so. Spoiler: Now that we've got a nice place and a nice sprite, let's get down to business. We'll start with class selection. Spoiler: Now we'll move onto character selection. [warning: gets confusing. follow very closely] Spoiler: That's it everyone! Demo: Spoiler: Show your support! Spoiler: -------------------- Not going back into RPG making. Will be more than happy to help with Eventing! Just PM me. I like a challenge. I'm going into music. I'll be posting some nice tunes for RM'ing at my soundcloud. Have fun, dudes. |

Looks good; I just got back into vx. Thanks. I've been working with VX for 8 days now and I'm glad to say I'm learning a lot. Don't get your hopes down due to lack of replies. I'm sure you've helped a lot of people, they just might not be polite enough to thank you! :3
At the end of the day you were able to help someone out. ^~^ -------------------- |

It's an interesting idea. Thanks for sharing it! Thank you for saying it's interesting. I was going to make it more complex than need be, where you could edit the parameters but then that idea went south when I realized you couldn't change the main player in the game. Also, you're welcome. -------------------- Not going back into RPG making. Will be more than happy to help with Eventing! Just PM me. I like a challenge. I'm going into music. So, has this helped anyone else in the past couple of weeks? I'm curious... And without any true feedback on my tutorials, I'm not sure how I should go about with my next one.

Yo, this reminds me somewhat of the Final Fantasy I in GBA! I may not be using it, but it's definitely something of interest and it's definitely something more unique then just giving a protagonist at the beginning. I'm kinda new to the site, btw and this is the first time I've actually commented.
I think the only concern is if the creator will add dialogue for the four protagonists, because that is somewhat time consuming and may require more variable usage. But then again, like in GBA Final Fantasy I, the characters can just have no dialogue at all, so I think it's all good, really! I don't think there's really anything to criticize; I'm interested to see the other tutorial you have. |

Crap! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to put it twice! How do I take it off?! D: Just edit it and say something along the lines of 'accidental doublepost' -- or just click the report button and ask a mod to delete one. Anyway, the dialogue wouldn't be a problem. I'd be using the \n[1] command for it all. There would be minimal switches too. Just to check whether you were a guy or girl. -------------------- Not going back into RPG making. Fist of all thanks for the work. :-)
But I have a question. It does not concern your tutorial itself, but the consequences from the given choice to pick a character. How do you set up the potraits for dialogs? I don´t think you are using the same faceset for every sprite, don´t you? ^^ Probably it´s beacause I´m pretty new to the RPGmaker that I don´t get how you set this up... The only way I can imagine would be using switches. Like writing/eventing every dialog for every given choice... That would be an incredible amount of work and thus I think there could be an easier way to achieve the same effect... Just that I don´t get it. ^^ So I would be very gratefull if you could answer my question, even if I´m a newbie. ^^ |

Just turn on a switch like 'Zachary Magician Dialogue' and use conditional branches in the dialogue. It'd be pretty time consuming, but it would be worth it in the end. -------------------- |

There are only 9 pictures. It shouldn't be a problem unless you have a really slow internet connection. If you do, click here for a smaller, more loadable version: http://www.rpgmakervx.net/lofiversion/index.php/t46907.html (It's a lo-fi version)
