Forewords:
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS PROJECT IS DROPPED. I apologize to the people who expected to see more, but due to a big flaw in the scenario that I couldn't correct, and due to lack of free time to work on it, I've decided to drop my project. Again, sorry.
Spoiler:
So far, this is my first project close to completion. The other ones were dropped mainly because of story problems or lack of inspiration.
Sometimes, I dropped them just because I did not have enough ressources at that time.
I used the default RTP on purpose (except for some details such as Title screen) to show that making a decent RTP game is possible.

This game deals with a fictional religion.
Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

Game synopsis:

"They say we have to help each other because it is the only reason to life.
They say we have to go on a pilgrimage to the Seculan Sanctuary to have our souls
protected by a fairy afterlife. They say if you offer your prayers to the Oracle
at the sanctuary, they might come true..."

Waltz has grown up with my mother telling me that ever since. But he never believed
in it, since it caused so much pain to his family. He has always wanted to help
people, so that they realize that they don't need God to help each other.
So, he decided to help Gordon at the grocery store of Secula.

At the start of week's break, while thinking of resting at home, he meets Marlie,
a fairy. She got hit by a dark light while she flew above the island. The essence
she was carrying broke into two pieces and one of them fell in the north of the island.
It seems he is the first living human she meets who can actually see her.
She considered it as a sign of God to help me, while he accepted to help her
for it was an opportunity to go on an adventure. He thought of bringing her to
the sanctuary to ask the help of the Oracle, my pendant shone and became warm,
as if it were happy for his will to help.

That's how Waltz started his first pilgrimage of Secula, but "the only prayer
I had to offer at the sanctuary was to find the lost essence."

World:

People from the whole world travel to the island of Secula, for its pilgrimage.
They believe that when they die, their essence (ie their soul and memories)
will be protected and brought by a fairy to the Guardian, he who sends them
to God for those who can rest, or sends them back to the cycle of life
for those who still have things to accomplish in the world of the livings.

There are two major places on the island:
- the town of Secula, which is the starting point of the pilgrimage
- the Seculan Sanctuary, where the Oracle lives.

The island has become more and more insecure for some unknown reason, and the
desert that leads to the sanctuary got even hotter than before. Therefore,
pilgrims have become rare because of so many deaths in the desert.

There is an extincted volcano in the north, called the Kingdom of Rodrigue,
after the name of its guardian spirit. It is inaccessible due to the surrounding
mountains.

In the East, it is said to be ruins in the Forest of Illusion, but no one has
ever gone through this enchanted forest.

Main characters:
Spoiler:

Waltz: 22 years old.
He works with Gordon, a friend, at the grocery store in Secula.
He never believed in fairies protecting people's soul. He wants to
help people with the hope that they realize that they don't need God
to help each other. He wears a pendant made of an unknown precious stone
he received from his mother. He is the first living human that actually
sees and meets Marlie, a fairy of Secula.

Warning, Major spoiler ahead (it will be the subject of a hidden sidequest):
Spoiler:
Waltz has never met his father, for the latter left his mother when
she got pregnant. On his birth, she felt grateful to God and became
very pious. For his 21st birthday, she went to the sanctuary to
thank God for her son had become an adult. But she died in the desert
and never went back. As a last will, she asked Gordon to bring
a magical pendant to her son which is supposed to be a lucky charm.

Marlie: unknown age
She is a fairy of Secula, usually unseen by humans and only known
through legends and theories. She got hit by a dark light while she flew
above the island. The essence she was carrying broke into two pieces and
one of them fell in the north of the island.
She considers meeting Waltz as a sign of God and asks his help to
find the other part of the essence.

Warning, Major spoiler ahead (it will be the subject of a hidden sidequest):
Spoiler:
Marlie has known Waltz's mother. To carry out her last will, she decides
to make a magical pendant with a bit of her essence.
As a second journey, she is carrying Waltz's father's essence.

Lense: 27 years old.
She's a pilgrim from the Continent. As the island is unsecure, she asks
Waltz to help her go throught the desert. She also sees Marlie and
considers it as a sign. After they reach the sanctuary, she decides to
help them back.

Warning, Major spoiler ahead (it will be the subject of a hidden sidequest):
Spoiler:
Her husband died at the sanctuary, on their first pilgrimage. She decided
to come every year to pray for him. The reason why she actually can see
fairies, is that he gave her part of his essence as a jewel when he died.

Rodrigue: unknown age
Spirit and guardian of the volcano, he is the source of the warmth of
the island. It is said that when he is enraged, he can wake the volcano
into exceptional eruptions. People forgot about him because the island
has become popular for its sanctuary. Some says that he heated up the desert
out of jealousy..

I like the title picture, pretty beastly. Story doesn't sound very original, but then again, neither does mine. Hopefully that means the story is actually pretty good. How long do you expect the game to be?

One thing about the mapping, when you use the mountainous wall tiles, and then the grassy tops, they clash. I don't know if you can notice, but they just don't look quite right together. Maybe its just me.

Well, right now, it is a bit hard to tell because I've focused on mapping and writing down the story.
The demo will be expected to last 20 to 30 minutes and will not include the major sidequests.
As for the full version, it could be around 1 hour long if you go straight for the main quest, but around 1h30 if you follow the sidequests.
I will make a note once I time it.

As for the grassy tops, I don't think it clashes that much.
It is hard to make hills or grassy cliffs with RTP, though...

The story sounds like it has been done before."He never met his father, and lost his mother at 21" I think I've gone through this story in about 97% of all the games I see. If only some could make a game about a boy who has a loving father who he talks to often and has a mother with immortality. I do agree with GrandMasterTrea about the grass and the cliff. I also really hate it when the main character is one of the few people who can see a fairy or something like that. Again someone should make a fairy that can't be seen by the main character but can still be heard. But there is a draw back to that because I've seen that too so I;'d make the fairy unhelpful and annoying. Other then that the mapping seems about as good as you can do with RTP.

An hour long game seems REALLY short. I'm having trouble seeing alot of storytelling go into it.

This could be a great eye opener to newbies or the types of RMer's that aren't determined enough,
It's great what can be done with the default RTP and I love this project so far, well done brother smile.gif

Thank you guys for showing some support!
I'm sorry I am late with this project. I overworked last week and needed a bit of rest. Hopefully, I'll be able to release a good demo before I go on holidays.

About the demo:
Spoiler:
The reason it is taking so much time for me to make the demo, is that I wanted to complete the maps before moving to eventing. The maps that are not used in the demo will not be included, though. The demo is expected to be the firsts half of the main quest, with an already balanced progression and complete eventing until its end. I hope to beta-test it or/and have it beta-tested before the release to keep bugs at minimals.

If you want to volunteer to beta-test the demo, PM me. (I don't need many testers, though, but their names will be included in the credits)
I'll add the few RTP reworks on the main thread (except the ressources made by cdx, namely title and gameove screens).

@Ostrich: Well, I have to agree with you that it seems terribly cliché, but in facts, these elements have a role in the story (but telling it out loud would spoil the story, so I decided to remove them from the presentation and put them in spoiler tags).
Besides, I truely think that it is unfair and non rational not to use Ralph's face just because it was over-used, should I say, in a wrong way. Would you feel the same if it were Ulrika's face or another popular RTP or Mack character's face ? Ralph's face has something unique among all the actors set: he looks innocent, idealistic, and common. That's why I picked him up. But if people don't like it, so be it. But they should not judge a game on such a criteria.

@GrandMasterTrea: it's hard for me to give an acute expectation of how long the game would be. Since the story is quite simple, it is hard to make a long and good game out of it. I'd rather like people to think that a game is good but short, rather than long and boring. There is some kind of a puzzle to be solved, but I don't know if they really are difficult to solve... Also, I haven't completed a full cutscene yet, so I can't make an average expectation of how long it adds to the game.

@Ooda: I hope it goes the way you say !
