CERULEAN HOLLOW




Introduction: War between humans and magical creatures has always been common. The two groups, while they can be at peace for a time, eventually find something to disagree on, and soon enough a bloody massacre of either humans or beasts ensues. But after some time has passed, the war is ended and peace returns. When the human priests caused their race to rise up against the mythical races, nobody held their breath. It was assumed that this war, like every war in the past, would be over soon. But this was not the case. The human soldiers seemed to be motivated by something other than thirst for blood. It was as if the priests had caused every civilized human to become enraged with the magical beings. Soon enough, things got out of hand. Peaceful elven women and children were slaughtered in their home villages, forest guardians were forced to lie dying on the ground as they watched their forest burn around them, unicorns were butchered for rations. The entire world became wreathed in chaos.

Four years later, 5% of the magical population was left. The majority of the creatures continued to fight against their human oppressors, but several hundred retreated to the last known bastion of mythical creatures: The Cerulean Hollow.

The hollow, while it seems inviting at the entrance, is home to many monstrosities. Goblins populate abandoned dwarven cities, enraged Golems violently protect the remains of their homes, and some have even witnessed the mighty Grootslang, a terrible giant serpent with the tusks of an elephant. Regardless of the horrors that wait within, the mythical creatures entered the cave and began their new lives. Most of the tribes have settled down in large grottos deep within the caverns, but several adventurous souls will not settle for a roughly made village. Legends of a beautiful underground city (for which the cave is named) have reached the ears of some creatures, causing them to venture deeper into the caverns, hoping to find this subterranean heaven. What will you choose? Stay safe in the arms of your tribe, or venture deeper for greater rewards?

The city of Cerulean Hollow



RP Description:

I don't want to force you to follow any certain plot. You can choose to stay in a village, but the true adventurers will decide to search for the city of Cerulean Hollow. Also, this RP is meant to be a sort of spin-off from Enchanted Forest (It takes place about 20 years later), so feel free to use a character from that RP, if you figure that he/she will survive the Enchanted Forest RP.

Also, there are four factions:
Humans - Most attempts to send large forces into the cave have been unsuccessful, due to the mythical creatures using guerrilla tactics, but several small groups of 1-3 have been able to slip through. Most of these groups are never heard from again, but who knows if they died, or if they joined the creatures....

Mythical Creatures - This faction contains almost every mythical creature, minus goblins, golems, and evil cave dwelling beasts. While the creatures have a deep resentment towards humans and goblins alike, who's to say that they can't ally with some members of the factions?

Goblins - The cave dwelling race of goblins have occupied the cavern for hundreds of years. They have millions of tunnels surrounding the caverns, which they use for fast travel. They are usually quite hostile, and will attack anyone other than a fellow goblin.

Other - Basically this faction is a miscellaneous group. It doesn't mean that the members are allies of each other, it's just a list of creatures that don't fit in with the above factions. Basically, treat this faction as if it were neutral.

Also also, there are several pre-made locations in this rp. As the Rpers travel deeper into the cavern, more locations may be added to the list. Right now the list is filled with starting points for each faction, but don't feel like you HAVE to start here, you can start however you like.

(note about factions: When creating your character, don't feel like you have to place your character in a faction just because of race. Place the character in the faction that you want them to be a part of. For example, someone might have a goblin who has sided with the mythical creatures, regardless of his race.)

Locations:


Camp Forthand - A human camp that's been set up about a mile from the cave's entrance. The camp is fairly small, and can house about 200 soldiers at one time. There is a strong river close-by, and most small groups ride scout rafts down this river to quickly enter the caverns. This will be a possible starting point for humans.

Jeral - Jeral is the first mythical village to be created in the caverns. It has about 50 residents, and is positioned by an underground river, therefore making it a fishing town. If a villager were to follow the river, they would reach a grand chasm in which a dwarven city resides.

Pfins - Pfins (pronounced Fins) is a dwarven city located in the depths of a huge chasm. The city is surrounded by a lake, which is constantly supplied with a waterfall. Hundreds of Goblins reside within the city, and don't take well to newcomers.

Dabraena - A city that resides between Jeral and Pfins. The majority of this town's population is made up of Dark elves. This is a fairly inhospitable place, so be sure to keep a weapon handy...

(If you belong to the "other" faction, you don't have a specific starting point. Just throw yourself in wherever you like :3)

Rules:


Read the rules that are listed here, else you will suffer the wrath of... someone... probably me.

Fill out the character form below, and PM it to me. Do not, I repeat, do NOT join in the rp until I've PMed you the go ahead.

This is a Literate RP. Basically, write in a paragraph, almost as you are writing a book.
(Examples:

Wrong - Hello there! *holds out hand*
Right - "Hello there!" said the goblin, as he held out his hand.)

Also, please, if at all possible, refrain from posting short paragraphs. You don't have to write a five page descriptive essay on how the character's nose hairs feel when braided, but try to keep the posts medium sized and interesting. The other RPers gotta have something to work with after all.

Don't God-mode. Don't stray from what you've written in the character form (don't make your elf suddenly be able to morph into dragon when he couldn't before). If you feel that you'd like to add more powers or something else to your character sheet, send me the ideas, and I'll decide whether or not to add them (in most cases I'll probably add them, as long as they aren't over the top)

Romance is allowed (I'd even say it's encouraged... by me at least.... <.< >.> (I like romantic themes)), but please stick to the rules of this board.

Gore is allowed, just don't go over the top. (just because there are entrails hanging from a sword, doesn't mean we need to know what they smell and look like)

Don't assign roles to people. Don't walk into the RP and say "HEY CHAIKES CHARACTER! I'M SUDDENLY YOUR LOVE INTEREST! AAAAAAND I'M YOUR ARCH-ENEMY FROM YEARS AGO!!!!!!", at least not without asking permission of the other RPer first.

Didn't feel like coloring him... Basically he has grey skin, the veins and tattoos glow cyan, and his eyes are white.

Background: Like every golem ever created, Oquar was built with his purpose already decided. He was built to be a guardian of the grand city named Cerulean Hollow. His body was carved from the mithril ore that surrounds the city, and his soul was created from the blue essence that flows through veins embedded in the stone. He was then placed outside the grand door that stood before the city, never being allowed to actually see the hollow's grandeur. For 273 years, Oquar and several other golems defended the door from the occasional goblin raid. He never questioned his purpose, but merely sat and waited for the next attack. Every once in a while, his adventurous spirit would get the better of him, and he would venture out a mile from the door, exploring the world beyond him. But he would eventually have to return, else he would be considered a deserter, and he would be stripped of honor.

Then one day, he noticed something different about the caverns. Sounds echoed throughout the tunnels, sounds that included more than goblin screeches. Letting his adventurous spirit get the better of him, Oquar left his post to investigate. He was suddenly overcome by a multitude of goblins. He readied his blade arm, ready to fight them, but instead the goblins flew past him. All of them seemed to be fleeing from something. He looked past the goblins to see something he had never witnessed before. Several strangely colored beings were assaulting the goblins. Some beings were pale and boasted pointed ears, and they furiously fired arrows into the group of goblins. Some beings were dark in color, and they caused lightning to shoot towards the goblins. Still other beings charged the goblins with swords at the ready. Little did this group know, they were entering Oquars territory.

Oquar began slaughtering the beings without mercy. How dare they send an army of goblins to the city! Oquar continued to butcher the beings, their blood and entrails covering his body, and their arrows and magic deflecting off of his hard skin. Unfortunately, while Oquar was taking care of the intruders, he failed to realize that he abandoned his post. He turned in time to see the great doors burst open, and ten more war golems charged through the mass of goblins. But the golems were not killing the goblins on purpose, no, they were heading towards Oquar. Realizing what was happening, Oquar readied his blade, and then proceeded to impale one golem, and shatter the head of another. While Oquar was experienced, he was outnumbered, and the golems finally detained him. He was approached by one of the generals, who proceeded to strip him of his rank, and banish him from the Hollow.

Ever since, Oquar has been wandering the caverns, hoping to find the source of those strange creatures, and to discover why they ruined his life.
Personality: Oquar, while very loyal, is somewhat adventurous. He will constantly stray off a beaten path in order to follow a more interesting way. He is resentful towards mythical creatures, but is neutral towards goblins. He has never encountered a human before, so who knows what would happen.
Occupation: wandering the caverns, due to banishment.
Weapons: Oquar relies mostly on brute strength, and the built in blade on his left arm. He can smash through titanium with his right arm, and his blade can slice up to 3 inches of mithril.
Powers: While Oquar doesn't boast any magical power, his mithril skin protects him from most attacks. Also, due to a slightly smaller size than other golems, he can move relatively fast (He can run about as fast as a normal human)
Extra Details: While his skin is almost impenetrable, his life force depends on Cerulean Essence, and he constantly has to absorb this essence from veins in the stone. If he runs out of essence, he is reduced to a corpse made of rock, until his "veins" (which you can see running all over his body) are refilled.

Also, since he lacks a mouth, Oquar speaks telepathically. Although, he rarely speaks unless it's truly important, and plus he lacks good people skills, being banished and all.


Lexie-chan - Laphei Kais

Character Name: Laphei Kais
Race: Dark Elf (like a Drow from D&D)
Faction: Mythical Creatures
Age: 112 years, but she looks to be about 20
Appearance: Laphei has dark navy blue skin, and silver eyes. She has long, pointed ears. Her hair is also a silvery white color, and her fingernails are black (naturally). Laphei is tall, about six feet, but has a smaller build. She wears black leggings and grey knee high boots. Laphei also wears a dark grey wrap shirt, and a black cape. Her sword belt is black, and the sword's sheath is also black.
Background: Laphei has lived in the caves for most of her life, though it was close to the surface. When the other mythical creatures started to enter the caves, she decided to abandon her home (dark elf city of Dabraena) in search of the Cerulean Hollow. This was because of the danger of living in Dabraena, since it was basically the killing capital of the Dark Elf lands. Not a good place to end up, anyway. She decided to try to find the Cerulean Hollow in hopes that it would have better living conditions, and less evil.
Personality: Laphei can be suspicious and judgemental of others, though this comes from having people want to murder you. She's courageous, and her readiness to rush into battle can be mistaken as idiocy. Laphei is a bit kinder to those that she knows well, though she still has an icy exterior.
Occupation: Laphei is a warrior, and she was a soldier in a Dark Elf army.
Weapons: Laphei keeps a katana in her belt, and a dagger in her left boot, for emergencies.
Powers: Laphei can use a few special powers, namely Darkness Strike, Death, and Void. Darkness Strike makes her sword dark and menacing, and those struck with it tend to get a bit depressed, or tend to go a bit insane. Death is a kind of a prayer to an evil Goddess, and if this 'wish' is granted, then it deals a lot of damage to the monster or person that it was cast upon. Void throws monsters into a black hole. Laphei is also talented with weapons, and she's good at climbing.
Extra Details: Laphei can see well in the darkness, but her vision is horrible in the light. In fact, the light really hurts her, and her skin can burn quickly. Laphei worships an evil Goddess, which can be both good and bad.


Dr. Horice - Ulrik Svensgaard

Race: Human Undead

Faction: Mythical Creatures

Appearance:

Background: Once a human being, Ulrik Svensgaard was known by bards and travelers throughout the nation for his noble and daring adventures in slaying beasts and saving damsels in distress. Few knew the truth that Ulrik was really a brutal contract killer who only cared about money and occasionally played the hero to keep up appearance. By the time Ulrik reached the age of 34, he discovered legend of a great treasure, a nameless diamond sword hidden deep underneath a holy shrine. The traps and monsters inside the shrine were no match for Ulrik, but when he stole the diamond sword, he noticed a great sickness taking over body by the time he left the area. Ulrik discovered later that the diamond sword was forged by several powerful gods and could only be held by a hero with a pure heart, and because Ulrik was greedy and heartless, he would be cursed for defiling the shrine and stealing the sword.

Ulrik went into hiding afterwards, still keeping the sword with him. His appearance became hideous as the curse took over his body, eventually causing all of his flesh and organs to rot away. Ulrik didn't die however, instead, he remained fully alive and conscious as an undead. Spending many years later hiding in the slums of a major city, Ulrik was discovered by an old priest named Bennett. Instead of exorcising him, Bennet saw that Ulrik still had a human soul unlike most undead, and could still be saved if he did a special task for the gods; A diamond shield was rumored to be in the underground city of Cerulean Hollow, having been stolen from the same shrine the diamond sword was kept in. If Ulrik returned the shield and the sword to the shrine, Bennett could ask the gods to return Ulrik his human body.

Ulrik later set out to Jeral and made an alliance with some of the Mythical Creatures living there.

Personality: Once a greedy and violence-loving bounty hunter, Ulrik's many years spent being undead allowed him to reflect on his actions and act as a better person. He still maintains his traits of being a man of business; calm, quiet, intelligent, and polite, though hard to truly befriend.

Occupation: Freelance treasure hunter.

Weapons: Ulrik still holds the diamond sword that cursed him, as his journey to find the diamond shield will be full of monsters and danger.

Powers: Being undead, Ulrik is immune to the effects of poison and can in fact be healed by dark magic. Ulrik's undead powers also allow him to move without having muscles and allow him to hear, see, smell, and taste without having a nervous system or any organs.

Extra Details: Healing magic and holy spells along with various other undead repellents cause Ulrik to feel immense pain.


McTuk - Murgul

Age: My irl age is 14, but the character's is 17 (48 in human years)
Appearance: A blue skin coloured elf with long ears and Golden Earrings. Dressed like a bum. With a potato sack basically. (for now)
Background: A 17 year old Blue elf kid suddenly woke up in the Dabraena, lost his memory, and everything he had on him. While going to look for shelter, he met this Ocuria Blue elf girl, which he immediately fell in love with. She took him to her home, treated his wounds, let him sleep, gave him food. But one day, he woke up, and saw her lying on the ground, dead. There was blood all over the floor. And a note saying "You will regret what you did to our people, you cruel elf!" He didn't understand the letter, because he was extremely friendly, and couldn't harm a single bug if it was defenseless... He swore to get revenge on whoever killed Ocuria.
Personality: An extremely friendly person, but if needed, can bit out your throat.
Occupation: A Magician.
Weapons: A wand, which he found in a shop for a really cheap price. He was told that the rod was cursed, but he didn't believe it.
Powers: Now, the only powers he has is the ability to control ice. He will realise, that he has more powers within him later on.
Exta Details: Hmm, I don't know what to add...


Arctic Heart - Aurora Arctic

I've decided to add NPCs to the RP. I may or may not keep them, depending on what people think. Right now the NPCs are in the experimental stage.

Everything you need to know is in the spoiler below :3

About NPCs:

During this RP, you may encounter a number of different characters. Some of these characters might be controlled by other RPers, but others will be NPCs.

NPCs will be controlled by the DM (aka, me), and they will populate the cities that you visit. Now, I'm not going to control every single person that you meet, I'm only going to be controlling the important NPCs. Some NPCs will give you quests, others will own shops that you can visit, and there are still others that you can bring along as companions.

Each NPC is native to a certain town. If you enter a town, and wish to interact with a NPC, all you have to do is make your character interact with the NPC, and then post ((Interact "NPC1")).

Here's an example:

"Gosh, I'm famished". Said the elf, as he wandered through the town, "Oh look! Bob's apples! I'll just go in there and get something from him." The elf walked up the steps and entered the store, holding his stomach. "Excuse me sir, can I buy some apples"? ((Interact "Bob"))

I'm going to list each active NPC and their native towns in a spoiler below. If an NPC is active, he/she will be listed as "A". If an NPC is dead, he/she will be listed as "K". More and more NPCs will be added and removed to the list as you continue to venture into the hollow. These NPCs will either be added by RPers, or by the DM.

About Companions:

Spoiler:
Companions are helpful NPCs that will join you after completing a task of theirs. Once you complete their quest, you can make one of three choices.

First choice: Let the DM (me) control the companion. You still get to keep the NPC as a companion, but you let the DM play as the NPC. This choice is helpful if you just want to focus on your character, but don't mind bringing along help.

Second choice: Control the companion yourself. Basically, you add the companion to your roster. You can then control every aspect of the companion, from backstory to whether or not he falls of a cliff.

Third choice: Leave the companion behind. Yeah, pretty self explanatory. Just leave the poor soul behind while you venture on.

NOTE: Treat another RPer's companion like you would treat the RPer's character. Don't kill them off or push storylines onto the companions without the RPer's (or DM's, depending on who's controlling the companion) consent.


About shops:

As you may have noticed, some of the NPCs are shop owners. I bet you're wondering, "How do we buy stuff?"

Well I'm glad you asked, curious RPer. I've devised a money system that each RPer will be a part of. Each character will start with 500 Gold. When you interact with a shop owner, he will list his goods, along with the prices. As long as you have enough money, you can buy something. Now, how do you make more money? Simple. You do quests (I considered making monsters give you money, and adding the ability to sell, but that would be too complex). Each time you finish a quest, you will automatically gain an amount of gold from the quest giver.

Now, how do you keep track of money? Well, if you check the character roster now, you'll notice a second added section. This section will show the amount of gold that each character currently has (companions do not have gold.). I will constantly update this list, so don't worry about not knowing your current gold amount.


ANOTHER NOTE: Since I'm doing this whole thing with NPCs, I might end up removing Oquar from the RP, just so it doesn't get too confusing.

ALSO ANOTHER NOTE: Before you ask, no, buying different weapons doesn't affect any stats or anything. In fact, there are no stats in this rp, cause we aren't rolling dice! Basically, you buy new weapons just for the heck of having a different weapon. Same goes for food. Potions, on the other hand, can be used as a sort of... "Deus ex machina"... if you want to call them that. Also, boats serve a purpose. You can use them as a way to move the story forward by sending your characters on a boat ride, and maybe you'll have some badass water fights too :3

It had been about a day and a half since she had first left Dabraena, the dark elf city. There had only been one person who had followed her, probably with the intent to kill for deserting, but Laphei had quickly taken care of him. The tunnel that she had been following was long, and showed no signs of letting up any time soon. Laphei kept walking, though, intent on finding Jarel, the place where other fantastical creatures supposedly lived. It would be easier to try to find the Cerulean Hollow if she went with someone, even if they were a pain in the butt.

There was a sharp right turn in the tunnel a few meters ahead. Anxious for something, anything, Laphei drew her katana and tiptoed along the corridor. She could hear voices ahead- a town, or a group of goblins? Drawing in a deep breath, she jumped around the corner, and saw a small village. There were no goblins, just other creatures. A unicorn, and some other kind of creature that Laphei didn't recognize. Darn. She hated unicorns. The other thing that was ticking her off was the abundance of light! Why did everything have to be so bright, she wondered. Shielding her eyes, she sheathed her sword and crept toward the town. There was no way that she was going into all of that light, but she would have to get close.

Murgul comes into Jeral, with no armor, no money, nothing. He goes to the center, and sees a person in black robes. "Kchem, excuse me, mister, when can I get some money around here?" The mysterious man in black robes answers "I don't need to answer your pathetic questions, pesky mortal!" and then walks away.
"Sheesh, what's with that grumpy guy?" Murgul suddenly hears. "I'm Maya by the way. And why in the world would you need money anyway?! You already have 500gold." Murgul gets surprised "Wow, how did you..." Maya suddenly stops him. "Shh. You picked a bad place for talking you know, there is a spy around, he is spying on you!" And suddenly the same man with black robes jumps on Murgul and steals all his money and his other useful belongings while knocking both Murgul and Maya out.
Murgul wakes up in a dungeon, only with underwear, tangled in chains. "Where am I?! What is this place?!" Murgul begins to panic. "Relax, we're in the sewers. The guards thought you were an assassin for some reason." Murgul hears Maya's voice, but it's so dark, that he cannot see her. "Maya? Where are you?!" And he gets knocked on the head again.

((This is actually my first RP, so don't expect much biggrin.gif ))

Aurora crept up behind a tree as she readied her bow and looked around.
She aimed her bow at a tent in Camp FortHand.
This was unlike her to seek revenge, but she wanted it so bad.
Aurora pulled her hand back ready to release and kill a human inside the tent.
But before she could, she heard a rushling in a bush behind her.
She quickly turned around and narrowed her eyes to see what it was.

NPC POST

Veronica (In response to Arctic Heart)


Veronica was puzzled. Elves were supposed to be smart, and yet here one stood on the edge of the camp, poised for an attack. She had to be wrong in the head. Only an insane person would attack a military camp alone.
As Veronica moved closer to the elf, she began to unsheath her sword. She'd have to make this quiet, else she might start a panic... mainly a panic that resulted in increase patrol hours.

She moved closer to the intruder, and turned her unsheathed blade towards the target, ready to strike. Then, suddenly, her hilt brushed the foliage beside her. Veronica froze as she watched the elf turn towards her. Their eyes met, and Veronica tightened her grip on her hilt, preparing for the worst.

Martin(In response to McTuk... should he return)


Martin watched as the blue elf lay on the ground, writhing in pain. The guards had thrown the being into martin's cell two days ago, and up until now he was unconscious.

What should I do? Thought Martin, Should I help him, or should I tie him down? I have no idea how dangerous he is after all.

Martin watched for a minute longer, and then made up his mind. He grabbed the nearby bed sheet and dipped it in the cell's water bucket. He laid the cold sheet over the elf's forehead, and tried to speak with him. "Hello? Can you hear me friend? If you can, nod your head."

Martin began waiting for a response, whilst dabbing the sheet on the beings forehead.

Aurora saw the female human and started to back up, but when she hit the tree, she fell to the ground.
"I-I'm warning you! I have a bow!" She said stuttering.
Aurora quickly reached for an arrow and for her bow.
She picked them up and readied her aim and pulled her finger back.
Aurora fired at the woman missing by three feet.

Taking a deep breath, Laphei crept closer to the village. She held her hand over her eyes, with only a slit to see through. Tension growing with each step, she broke into a run and darted across the village green. Laphei practically dove into one of the buildings. She threw the door open, not caring who was inside, and slammed it behind her.

At least this place was darker than it had been outside. Laphei removed her fingers from her eyes, but squinted. Why did people like the light so much? What little skin she had showing was feeling tender, and felt as if it had burned in the few seconds that she had been out there. With her eyes still squinted, she looked around. It had been a stupid move to run across the green, she realized, but it was too late to think about that now.

Finally finding a darker part of the room, she noticed that there were two other people occupying it. Two elves (Murgul and Martin), from the look of it. Laphei put her hand on her katana, getting ready to strike if necessary. "Who're you?" she said, a slight foreign accent in her voice.
