Hello ladys and gents.

Im in a bit of a pickle trying to make a decent chase scene. Basicly i have set up a room with a monster in it that will chase the player (useing basic approch player) and cause a gameover when it touches them (useing the event touch trigger) the only probblem is as im sure you all know the following A.I. in VX isnt all that smart and my event keeps getting stuck behind objects/walls which kind of kills the sense of fear a bit. Iv tried setting my event to be able to walk through objects and events but this is buggy and can cause the event to be litraly standing ontop of the player and not triggering the gameover (see screenshots).

The RPG Maker XP game Ao Oni (Link to a video of the game at bottom of request for refrance) featured an enemy which would walk around objects and chase you from map to map (Thats a diffrent can of worms i know but if anyone knows how to do that via a script insteed of millions of events id be thankful) so basicly if anyone knows how they made the event smart enough to know to do that id love to know.

TL:DR I need a event which chases my player but isnt a dumbass about it and actaly walks around objects insted of trying to walk right throught them.

Slenderman being a dumbass and getting stuck behind the bed.

Try looking for a pathfinding script. I believe Modern Algebra has one... Also, I've noticed enemies seem to follow better if they can move at the same speed or faster than the player; what if this monster can sprint short distances, before walking again? Might make you jump having a zombie dash out of a bush or from behind a burned out automobile...

Hello everyone again

i downloaded Yanflys path finder script and as much as it shames me to admit it....i have no idea how to set it up for monsters chasing the player. I can set it up so the monster moves to a set point very efficiently but how do i go about setting it up so an event will move properly to where the player is considering the players going to constantly be on the move?

Have a parallel process event updating the values of two variables; each set to the player's x and y, respectively. Then just have the evented enemy run to that (x,y).

Heres my problem there's no option to have the event move to a variable X and Y (not that i know of) the only options in the ah im pulling my hair out oer this finding script are for it to move to a set X,Y.

Heres some screen shots that might help. So i get the players X and Y using a parallel process event [IMG=http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/347/pic1uj.png][/IMG]

But then theres no option to use that variable to move the event not in the basic move route or in the path finding script there's just a option to move to a set X and Y [IMG=http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/3007/screen2xyf.png][/IMG]

Gah i really wish rpg maker came with a built in path finding on enemy's so the basic move toward player wouldn't be dumb and not go around obstacles. Thank you everyone for your help so far it is hugely appreciated smile.gif hopefully were close to a solution

I believe that is because he is using Modern Algebra's Path Finding script, not Yanfly. You can tell from the script call he used. Here is a link to the script.

Ah yes sorry about that small over-site on my part I swapped to Modern Algebra's scripting hoping it might have a way to call an event to move to a variables stored x and y...which it did not its a great oath finding script but alas I still cant figure a way to use it or any of the other many scripts i have found to get an enemy to chase a moving target without getting stuck behind objects. I know it must be possible games such as ao oni and the witches house prove this but holy hell is it turning into a pain in the ass to find a solution.

Thanks again for the replies sorry I forgot to mention the script swap I type things when I really should be sleeping instead.

According to your image, you're using Variables 6 & 7 for your player Map coordinates, correct?

In Modern Algebra's PathFinding Script you CAN use those variables as an argument.
CODE
$game_variables[6] # <= X Coordinate
$game_variables[7] # <= Y Coordinate

Hi again everyone.

Still no luck i took your advice DP3 and set up my events in a fresh project (to make sure no scripts could conflict with the pathfinder) and I still had no luck the event with the move route script command (the little boy in the third picture link) just didn't move at all no matter what trigger I gave the event. (Links below show in pictures how i set up the event to run)

Hey! I can't believe you guys didn't figure this out! First, here's the script: http://forum.chaos-project.com/index.php/topic,12851.0.html
Use this call in a script command: PathFinder.dyn_find(X, $game_player)
whilst X being the event ID.
The event with this call should be a parallel process with the a switch when the chase is on. (Or if you start the chase from the beginning, you don't need a switch.)
Try that.
