This idea has been percolating in my head for quite some time, and being an avid TCG player, i feel that this should be done. I've been planning to make a card game long before i returned to RPG making, with my inspiration from TCGs such as Magic: The Gathering, Yugioh!, Battletech, and heckuva' lot others. So i am looking for anyone here interested in making a card game for RPG Maker VX.

Here are the card game mechanics:

1. Each player has a minimum of 40 cards, maximum is 60.
2. Similar to Magic, cards require a cost to play, and like land cards, there are cards that produce 'mana'. Unlike Magic though, there will be only one type of resource.
3. Type of cards include, but not limited to, Character; Event; Ability; Item; Areascape; Flux (the 'mana' in this game). Some of these types are further divided. For example, Ability Cards come in either active; passive; trigger, etc..
4. One of the original features of this game is that, Characters move around a circular, hopscotch-esque game-area, the objective (one of the ways to win, actually) is for the player's to reach the center of the circle, or the core, and stay in that for a certain amount of turns. But this might be scrapped to give way to more simplified gameplay.
5. Multiple victory conditions, including a 'personal' victory condition, for example, a card that makes the user win the game after 20 turns.
6. Single character battles, only one can participate directly in battle, however, there are 'supportive' characters that help the active battler. Also, characters have 'Action Points' that is used for using their own abilities and some Ability Cards.

Traditional RPG is still instilled(If you ever played Yugioh GX Tag Force, that should give you an idea) such as :

1. Choose your name, gender, etc.
2. Storyline driven by your wins or loses to certain characters.
3. Chapter-based (I'm not sure about this one).

I'm not telling the story because i feel this is too early for the development of the game. I believe that for this kind of game, the storyline is the extension of the game, not the other way around.

For the recruitment. I just need the following (in order of importance);

- Those who are very knowledgeable about TCGs, especially those who understand the mechanics and strategies in TCGs.
- Eventers, since i want as little script use as possible, and of course, many of the game mechanics can be performed thru events/variables, the hardest work goes to here.
- Scripters (I think the work is not too much for this one. I want the game to be event based as possible, but, obviously, there are some things that can't be done with events, so the scripters will do the job).
- Spriters - This is desirable but not necessary since there are lots of resources already out there.
- Testers - Could be anybody, even those not familiar with TCG's. But its a plus if you know at least one, even the older TCGs.

I'm not expecting much will participate, but at least i voiced out my plans on this. What i really want on this is if the game i created will be playable and can be compared, at least, to commercial TCGs. If this worked out good, then ill focus on this till its done. My personal project, The Ballad Of John O'Bannon, is still alive, im just having a writer's block so i can't progress on it. So, who's up to the task?

Oh i forgot the title, please fix, Mods.

Hmmm... I played Yu-gi-oh for a few years too, but I've been done with that for a long time... Po-Gay-mon has never been cool, and I never did like MTG... Sooo... I might have been of help a few years ago, but no more.

Then a tester would be a good position for you, since you know how to play some TCGs.

I actually don't like yu-gi-oh anymore... really. Especially when everyone else always calls it (And me) stupid. (for playing it)

Plus, I'm too busy to be a tester. I'm a designer, pure and simple.

If you don't want to be part of this team then don't post/flame.

Cool, its your call. But maybe you should consider the fact that game designers are involved into every part of making a game, even Testing. Maybe ill specify that testers that are experienced in other older games like Battletech, VTES, and L5R (google if you please), is a plus.

I will say this - there is no way I can figure to have a deck of cards without a script.
(I tried! lol )
So you will want to find a scripter.

This comment was not needed and offers nothing to the thread. You have been reported sir. If you can't add to a thread, don't post in it.

I would be willing to test the game for you if you wish!

I know its inevitable, but i try as much as possible to lessen script usage (unless of course its way easier than eventing!), cuz me myself know little about scripting. In handling cards, like dealing or shuffling, i think its possible with events with some help of scripts. The scripter's main job here is in those involving the interface and the like.

Hehe, thanks, although your work wont come anytime soon, cuz this thing will be quite complicated!

Do you know some olden TCGs? Its fine if you don't, because im aiming this to be quickly playable and easy to learn, as well as challenging to experienced players.

I have played magic: the gathering and yi gi oh competitively in the past (never made it far in yu gi oh, and in magic, i made it to top 8's in some PTQ's but never won). I've also played a bit in the dragon ball z tcg, pokemon tcg, duel masters tcg, and UFS. I don't know what I could do exactly, but I'd be willing to help smile.gif

I think this can be done through variable manipulation, but I'd have to sit down to do the math. Basically, you'd have to set each card to a variable, then each of those variables to the variables of the deck itself if you chose that as a card in the deck.
As far as shuffling, out of those new cards, you'd just pick a random variable out of those ones.

Anyway, that's how i think it'd work, but then again, its 5 in the morning and i'm about to head to sleep...

Y'all people do realize this hadn't been replied since last year? happy.gif Its still in concept stage, and is still a looong way to go. Along with other things....

Anyways before the mods close this i would like to share you a 'RPG Maker Card Game' called Deus Cards. Its one of my inspirations to do this. I mean, if you can do this in 2k, how so much in VX?

Deus Card

This looks nice. =) First things first. I'm in game right now but would like to help you in the eventing area. Few things tho...I will need some time to see the battle system and things like that. Second this will not be my main focus but I would really love to help with this. I play Yugioh ALOT. Pokemon some times and I know a little about Dule Masters. PM me would be the best way to get in touch.
