The Hero/Actor Recolor Project What is this?/ Just got home and decided I would start up this tiny little project that I wanted to do for a LONG time. Some might remember my villager recolor topic a long time ago. Well this time, this is dedicated to the hero/actors of RMVX. Not only are you going to get recolored charsets, but facesets to go with them. Why make this?/ I wanted to give everyone alternative options to what your heroes look like.......... ...okay.. to be perfectly honest, I think I was just getting sick of looking orange-haired Ralph or purple-haired Elmer as the main hero for EVERY new game that was being made. So to everyone who wants to make a new game, please consider looking at this first. : ) When does it update?/ I'm going to try to go for 1-2 times a week. Just because I'm pretty busy most of the time. But updates will go from left-to-right order starting with Actor1. It will keep going all the way until all the actors are done. Once it's all finished, I'll ask a mod to close it. Do you need credit?/ I've always been pretty 'meh' when it comes to crediting someone JUST because they recolored a charset/faceset they didn't make themselves. I just don't get it. So the answer it no. These charsets/facesets are credit-free. : ) All I ask if that you don't post these up anywhere else or claim that you made them. That's just not cool. If you want to show them to other people, please just link to this thread. I hope you like/will use! Well.. if it's fanmade, as long as I have the names of the people who originally made them so I could credit them, then yeah. I could have a go at it. The more resources, the better. : ) Also, finished two actors today. Actor01-02 and Actor01-03. I just need to finish Actor01-04's facesets and she'll be done too. Here's the other two meanwhile. ![]() ![]() (I guess I should start fixing up the first post so it won't look like a wreck when I start finishing more stuff.) -------------------- "LOOK AT HOW GODDAMN SERIOUS THIS HELMET IS." -MECHANICOR The Drunken Paladin Supported Games: Spoiler: Supported Topics: Spoiler: Other Stuff: Spoiler: |

Thank you for doing all of this. It's very helpful for those of us who can't recolor worth anything ^^. (I can recolor sprites ok, but facesets are a nightmare!) While my project is currently on hold while I rethink the story, my main characters "were" actors 1-2 and 1-3, so I may just end up using a couple of these.

Thankyou very much. If people like them, then I'm happy enough. : )
Here's the recolor for Actor01-04. (Ulrika's always been a badass, in my opinion.) ![]() I probably won't work on anymore today because I need to work on a picture for a friend, but I'll get around to Ralph when I'm done, grandma. : ) This post has been edited by Antares: Feb 11 2009, 04:34 PM -------------------- "LOOK AT HOW GODDAMN SERIOUS THIS HELMET IS." -MECHANICOR The Drunken Paladin Supported Games: Spoiler: Supported Topics: Spoiler: Other Stuff: Spoiler: |

Sorry for the wait. It's been pretty busy.
*cough* But erm.. I managed to get two more done. Just two more and the first set of actors will be completed. Here's Actor01-05. ![]() He was kind of a challenge to think of colors for, especially the way his default armor is colored. But that's the best I got. Next is Actor01-06. She's another favorite of mine. ![]() Can you change Ralph into a black man with black hair and red eyes? Well.. this isn't a recolor shop. But if I find time, I could try. But you need to be a bit more descriptive than that. What about his clothes? This is really good. Keep up the good work. Can you make different races for the actors? I don't really know what that means. Different races like what? Elves? I'm not sure... I'm not going to do much else until I have all the actors recolored. After that, then I could try different things with them. I should learn to do this some time (I've heard its supposed to be easy, I'm just too lazy to find a tutorial to show me >.<) xD Well.. it's easy because I have photoshop. It's an extremely powerful program that let's you do things like this in a breeze. Thankyou for the comments, guys. I appreciate it. Edit: Finished the last two for the Actor01 sheet. Here they are. ![]() ![]() Guess I should edit the first post now. :P This post has been edited by Antares: Mar 6 2009, 04:45 PM -------------------- "LOOK AT HOW GODDAMN SERIOUS THIS HELMET IS." -MECHANICOR The Drunken Paladin Supported Games: Spoiler: Supported Topics: Spoiler: Other Stuff: Spoiler: |

Really great recolors Antares, I just have a couple questions about recoloring facesets.
So I have Photoshop CS3 and I have a general idea of how to recolor things, but whenever I do them they look no where near as crisp and clean as yours do. What I normally do is just highlight area the I want changed with the magic wand and then change its hue/saturation. This doesn't always bring out good results. I was just wondering what you normally do when you are recoloring a facest. -------------------- Projects I support:

Update time. Starting with the first two heroes from the Actor02 sheet.
First up, Actor02-01: ![]() Next is my favorite little female mage. Actor02-02. ![]() Really great recolors Antares, I just have a couple questions about recoloring facesets. Truth be told, I don't use the magic wand OR the hue/saturation. I have photoshop7.0, but for CS3, there shouldn't be anything too different from what I'm doing. (I have no idea how gimp works, so I don't know if it's the same for that too.) I use alot of layers. For instance, to start changing hair.. 1. I make a new layer 2. Select the polygonal lasso tool and make go over the hair. 3. In the new layer, I fill the polygonal selection with the color I want. 4. In the layer window, I use the drap down menu and switch it from normal to color. (If it ends up being too light or too dark, I make a duplicate of that layer and put it to screen or multiply depending on what I shade I want. And then just adjust opacity.) 5. Then I press ctrl.G to group it with the faceset and make a new layer to start with other clothing and such. I'm pretty sure that people will consider that to be a longass task to do, but I'm comfortable with it and it just makes the colors appear much smoother as opposed to just selecting a piece and using hue/saturation. Hope that helps. : ) This post has been edited by Antares: Mar 8 2009, 10:36 PM -------------------- "LOOK AT HOW GODDAMN SERIOUS THIS HELMET IS." -MECHANICOR The Drunken Paladin Supported Games: Spoiler: Supported Topics: Spoiler: Other Stuff: Spoiler: |

4. In the layer window, I use the drop down menu and switch it from normal to color. (If it ends up being too light or too dark, I make a duplicate of that layer and put it to screen or multiply depending on what I shade I want. And then just adjust opacity.) 5. Then I press ctrl.G to group it with the faceset and make a new layer to start with other clothing and such. I'm having a little trouble with these steps. I used the drop down menu and changed to color and it did end up being too dark, so I made a duplicate layer but I don't know what you mean by putting it to screen or multiplying it? I adjusted the opacity though and made it look better. Also I tried ctrl.G to group but it didnt do anything so I went up to layer and grouped it that way but the original color (one that was too dark) is the one showing up, so I had to go and delete that layer and just keep the duplicated one with the lower opacity. Using the Polygonal lasso tool is a little weird too. Must be just the harsh lines it makes and you cant really wrap exactly around the pixels unless you really took your time on it. But yeah this is what I came up with on my first try (forgot to lasso around the ear so its kinda pink lo)l: ![]() -------------------- Projects I support:
