The official Let's Play topic

What is a Let's Play? A Let's Play is usually a video (it can also be written with the aid of screenshots) of someone playing a game and giving commentary about it. They are different from walkthroughs in that the LP'er is just playing the game for fun and giving commentary, and while it could be considered as a walkthrough, it is not advisable to think of it as such (i.e. the player makes plenty of mistakes).

This thread is meant to give a place for LP'ers to post their videos, or for people requesting a LP be made of their game. So you can post in here for someone to make a LP of a game (it doesn't have to yours, it just has to be made with RPG Maker), and anyone else can pick up that suggestion and start playing.


The rules:
1. You can only suggest/make a LP of RPG Maker games (any version).
2. Anyone can suggest a game.
3. Anyone can take up on this offer and start making a LP.
4. LPs are not an invitation to bash the game for no reason.
5. LPs must contain commentary.
6. Please do not repeat a suggestion, or whine about how no one picked yours yet.
7. You can post the LP in parts/episodes, it's up to you.
8. Try to post your LPs in only one post so it's easier to track.
9. If an episode of the LP is done, please post the video in this thread (either as a link to the video, or the video itself). I suggest uploading it to YouTube (15 min timelimit, or none at all), and then using this code:

Ah, cool an LP topic. I'll post all of mine here as I finish them. I guess I'll use this post as a home base and just duplicate my other post from the General forum.

I do LP's of RPG Maker games. I'm sure it's been done before, possibly even done better, but I doubt very seriously that it's been done more efficiently. What all aspiring game developers desire is feedback on their games. Some of the best feedback anyone can receive is watching their game played in real time, seeing how people tackle and undergo the challenges and adventures you've set forth. I've been an LPer for a little over two years. My last youtube channel, like many other LPers, was unfairly shut down for 'copyright infringement', but that's neither here nor there. I've become disenchanted and bored with commercially released games, so I'm turning to the Indie community in an effort to help the next wave of designers craft their games.

I've done a game called Razor Sharp Moon which I picked randomly from this site, as well as two requests called Dungeon Champion and Fiery, the latter also being on the site. I LP Monday-Friday, and I generally put out 45-60 minutes per day. This means that if you have a 4-5 hour demo, it is very likely I will be able to finish it in a week. I have nothing in my queue at the moment.

I've been told that I'm entertaining. I put a lot of effort into what I do, both technically and in terms of content. This is just the Chapter 1 Demo, which is about 2 hours. Chapter 2 is coming in the future, so if someone LP's this, they may want to LP that in the future as well
Also, if you're talking during the LP, I would suggest the Non-VA version

I'll try, but the problem is, I've done/will do requests from people who may have a game on this forum, but didn't necessarily make the request to have it played on the forum. Dungeon Champion and Fiery, for example, were both requested directly via Youtube, and Razor Sharp Moon was the first game I did, which I essentially picked at random with permission from the creator.

I'll edit my post to make it a bit more like the form though.

Any version as in ANY version? There's more than just RMXP and RMVX. There's also the RPGMs on the PlayStation and PlayStation 2, which I also cover.

Also, I do not plan on doing LPs made with the illegal makers (not unless someone can prove they own them legit), but out of curiosity, are they also included?

Yes ... any version.

You can do whatever you want, if you don't want to do LPs on certain games, then be my guest. No one is forcing you to. Plus there's no way to tell people are using illegal versions unless it's one of those translated versions.

No, your voice is fine, it's just the lack of bass that the mic picks up, and since your voice seems to be naturally higher pitched, it gets kind of screechy every once in a while.

I agree with Celianna that your mic is a little screechy at times, but it's not a huge deal or anything
Oh, and answering a question from your LP here, the golden butterflys restore your MP

Oh okay, I use a headset, so maybe the mic has poor bass reception?

I usually save the files as flvs, but I'll experiment a bit more with file typing. (I probably need a better editing program too. >.<; )

I still think this is a super crazy place for an LP thread. I mean, most of these games are not "in development" any more and are completed.

It would make so much more sense for this to be in the Resource subforum, but the mods really seem resistant to that. It took me forever to find this thread when someone told me my game was mentioned in it as being a LP. I looked through General and Completed and Resource and... here it is in one of the strangest places. Might as well put it in Learning Ruby.

Anyway, RPGUnmaker is hilarious, and I'm honored to have my game ripped to shreds by him. Though I am slightly worried after that recent episode and wonder if I need to take a restraining order out.

No, this is actually the best place for the thread. It would make absolutely not sense whatsoever to post this in the resource forums, because it's not a resource. These Let's Plays have everything to do with a person's RPG Maker project, be it completed or still under development (most are actually not completed, I don't know where you got that notion from), so project development was the perfect place to put it.

Funny that it turned out that way. I'll admit that I'm in the middle of an unfinished game, myself. Still, it's a bit strange in situations when someone actually is tackling a full game. But until more finished games are being LPd, I don't think it's worth arguing the point. May actually be that unfinished games are always going to be the focal point, as they're quicker to get through and feedback for them tends to be more important.

I've been doing these for a while.
Yeah, there's a lot of non-RMVX games on this list. But I didn't have the means to record PC games until this year.

But neither is it, in some instances, a project under development. If your argument is that it is not a resource because it's not an image/piece of music/etc that a person can use for their game, I can understand that; I was thinking of "resource" in the basic definition of the word, in the same way that an idea is a resource, but now that I'm actually thinking about, I realize that the Resource subforum is much more specific than that. I still stand by the fact that this current subforum is just as inappropriate.



From the fact that the only Let's Plays I've personally seen were of my own game, a completed game, and several other completed games on the same channel. And the fact that all of the requests on that LPer's youtube channel were people requesting well known completed games.


In the Game & Map screenshot thread RandomUser123 doesn't post a screenshot of Eternal Eden and say "hey, look at this map from this other guy's game!"

Say... there are two games that I think deserve some sort of LP.

Actually those first two "better" videos of Blood Shard have a pretty unbearable framerate. At times it's down to about 1 frame per second.

@Kanji: I suggest downloading the trial version of Camtasia studio. It can record the screen, and save the video as various formats, I recommend saving as an AVI (WMV is also possible, but it desatures the image) without losing too much FPS. It will probably work a lot better than what you have now @_@

Kajini, you should have told me you had a Let's Play of my game! Your voice is very pretty by the way! I feel embarrassed you're doing on an old demo now though--sorry for any stupid bugs! ;_; But this is very cool!

Yeah, the first two were made with the old program but with new compression ideas. The rest are with the new program and compressing.
The problem I have with avi files is that they're so damn large. For example, the 17 minute episode of Blood Shard (the third episode) was over 1GB, so I used prism video converter to change it to a wmv which cut that in half (it would still take about an hour for me to upload a file that large) so I converted it again into an mp4, which cut the size down to about 60MB - still takes about 20 minutes to upload, but much more manageable and with a lot less quality loss than before.

I'll look at camtasia, though, and give it a few spins to see how it does. I'm still looking for a good program.


@Ronove - Thanks and don't worry, I'll keep in mind about the bugs and I read up on the topic just to check if there was anything I needed to know (like antidotes!). I meant to post something in your thread to let you know I was doing an LP, but lost track of time and forgot. I was gonna do that today, but looks like you already spotted it.
